One thing I don't do is intentionally underestimate these monsters! They can move slow or fast, take a wide or narrow swath.

Even the conventional wisdom of tornados is being proven false. They have been known to suck creeks dry and follow valleys, or just skim the ridges of the hills.

As a First Responder and a storm spotter I am privy to some National Weather Service video footage that is frightening and gruesome.

And yet street lights were still on so power hadn't gone yet. That is eerie.
I have never seen one during they day, but I saw one at night while I was driving down the road. It was not hard to see that it was a funnel cloud moving in front of me. Scary.
