I RARELY put my foot down and say there is no discussion. (Maybe 3-4 times in ten years).
But on those occasions when I do my wife accepts it, because she has learned through the years I would never do that unless I sincerely believed it best for her, not me.

Baron, sounds like you are doing it right! Throw a little instruction on how to treat a lady and you'll have some fine young men!
|
Oh, we work on that too. Holding doors, respect, shielding them from danger, etc. My pastor in Oregon was so big on this. When a lady would take the steps to the platform the young men were trained to escort her up.
Another thing we do is every morning we read a chapter from Proverbs (I am gone by the time he gets up) and he calls me and we talk about 2 or 3 of the verses and he also talks to me about the devotional he is reading. (Right now it’s the Purpose Driven Life). We usually go to breakfast together on Saturdays and we talk about Sports, politics, and usually a substantive issue as well...like girls.
He is far from perfect right now, he doesn't have a perfect instructor either. I would like to hear some input from other men about things the do to teach their boys.

Re: The Emasculating of Men and Masculation of Wom
i think it is a shame that society has become so bungled and twisted that it is hard for a man to be a gentleman anymore even if he knows how, i take my hat off to the few remaining real men who know how to treat a lady, i am trying to do that myself, dt

Which brings up a side issue dt.
I am a self-avowed chauvinist perhaps too old to change if I wanted to, but I know many younger men who have quit trying to be a "gentleman" because of women who have bitten their head off when they tried to be courteous and told them it was demeaning and they could take care of themselves.
Unfortunately with all the mixed signals is it no surprise that so many of our young men have given up in confusion.

Jim, This is aboslutely true...unfortunately, just as abuse as a child casts a shadow on the person as an adult, abusive spiritual authority causes years of ramifications. I am a case in point.
I try really hard to submit to Pastoral authority and when in a relationship with a man/his authority but it is often marred by paranoia and distrust.
People tell me they love me but I don't believe them nor trust them for the most part...right down to my own family. That is why I stay in therapy
Blessings, Rhoni
