Doctrine and faith aren't "either-or."

Excellent post, Amos.

My wife and I have been married for 24 years. We have a relationship.

However, there are some "works" that I must do to maintain that relationship.

Things like not wearing my muddy boots in on her clean carpet. Cleaning the kitchen after dinner when she's tired, buying her roses on our anniversary, etc.

I don't do those works to STAY married and in relationship, I do those things BECAUSE I'm married and in a relationship.

I might agree that in some cases people perform works for the wrong reasons, but that doesn't negate the fact that the works are important.

Faith without works is dead.

Re: Not Enough Relationship Taught

Grace put Adam and Eve in the Garden; but it took obedience to keep them in the Garden.

So it is with the Church, and our walk with God.

Eliseus,
I'm more or less making a statement, or 2. I've honestly in my 37 years of living only went to 4 churches. And honestly they have all been great churches. Yea, some wierdos in the altar area.
All I was saying is there has been those few times where they were stupified. I love that lingo.
Just saying a few times in thier training, they were not listening.

By the way you say some great stuff.

Re: Not Enough Relationship Taught

I have a question--why is it that some can't teach or talk about relationship without de-emphasizing doctrine first?

Teach relationship--preach it--live it--example it.

But why start out slamming the doctrine forst, like this post did?

What gives?

Are you talking about the first post of this thread?

If so, I didn't see where he was de-emphasizing doctrine........I did see that his perception was that others thought he was "changing" his doctrine, when in reality he wasn't.

Re: Not Enough Relationship Taught

I was in no way de-empasizing doctrine. All I was saying is that some people are so programmed that when you mention personal relationship, they automactically think you are changing the doctrine.

Thats all folks.

Re: Not Enough Relationship Taught

Some people emphasize "relationship" and throw out holiness teaching (doctrine).

Re: Not Enough Relationship Taught

Good grief.

That has got to be one of the most over-simplified characterizations of UPC/Apostolic churches I've ever heard.
----

And where does he get the idea that they were thinking "he's changing his doctrine", just because he was speaking about relationship?
Did they say this? ...or did he just think they were thinking it ?
