Thank you, Sister, but I have to disagree. I am the blessed one. Thursday was our 13th Wedding Anniversary. The same day we learned that, more than likely, it will be our last. How blessed I have been to have these 13!

Footwashing had a cultural purpose in that day that is no longer with us today.
There are commands on how to treat your slaves in the bible...do we need to get us a slave or two so we can continue in this culture to obey something that applied to a time and culture far removed from us today?
I think not.

That is an excellent point!
It will of course be ignored by most.......

Where do we draw the line between what is symbolic and what isn't?

Good question. I'm too tired right now to think of a good response. Hopefully someone else can give you a good answer Esther.

Re: Different Thought on Foot Washing
I am glad that I read this. I think that there were some great ideas posted concerning the issue. However, I believe that it could and possibly should be even more that what was originally posted.
Jesus says that if you have ought against your brother, or he against you, to go and make things right.
How many of the petty personality problems that occur in a church and even between ministers would be resolved in a more peaceful manner if they would be willing to wash each others feet? If a saint was clashing with the pastor, but was caused to wash his feet, could they be reconciled? What about two sains who were causing a disruption in the church with their stife, could it be healed via a time of foot washing?
This has happened in the past, and I believe should happen more often than it does. I know preachers who might get along better if they would wash one another's feet. I believe that it is very often a matter of pride. It would be interesting to see.
