I thought of something to add here-
One year things were tight. I did not have two PICTURES of nickels to rub together. I cannot recall the year, but somehow I scraped up some $$ and on Christmas Eve, my daughter and myself went shopping. Since it was so late in the year, we opted to head to the local drug store. This was a Brooks at that time, but they merged with others and Brooks is gone from the scene now. They had a section in the back where there were trinkets and treasures seasonally offered.
I did all of my wife's gifts there that year, and my daughter and I then wrapped them together. I know we are not supposed to be caught up in the commercialism and gifts only, but that year it was different, and it was very nice.

One of my favorite memories is when my brother would get his guitar and we would all sing Christmas carols around the Christmas tree.
We never had much in money, so the gifts were few and not expensive, but it was always a joy to open them and always have peanut butter fudge on Christmas!

One of the best Christmas memories was when I was 14, and I got a Memphis Fender Bass Copy.Later on I got a real Fender Bass which I still have.

My mom's family was large (7 brothers and sisters) and when we'd all get together there was well over 50 of us stuffed in my grandparents medium size house. Most of us lived in town except two families that traveled from Little Rock. When they would finally get there it was nonstop food and laughter coming from every room!
We had such a close knit family and we never wanted to leave to go home!
I miss getting to be together with such a large group and my kids haven't ever been able to experience that.

I'm with ya, Renda!
On my mom's side of the family there were 6 girls. On Christmas Eve, we would begin at one sister's house...eat, laugh, watch them open their presents, etc. Then we'd move on to the next sister's house...do the same thing. It went on until we ended the evening at Grandma & Grandpa's house, usually around 11:00 p.m. It was the one night of the year that all of us grandkids were allowed to be up late.
(sigh) I can still smell the food, hear the music....
Unfortunately, the sisters ended up moving all over the country and the tradition died. But I still have those memories!

The year that I was 9 my dad had 3 heart attacks. Mom sat us older ones down (there were 5 of us) and told us that there would no gifts that year and no tree. We had no money.
The last day of school before Christmas break I was called down to the principal's office. The librarian was there and asked if I would like to have the tree that had been in the library for the whole month of December. I was so excited about that! They let me out of school early and I dragged that tree all the way home (2 blocks).
Just before Christmas we were all sitting watching tv one evening when someone came to the door. Dad answered it and there was 2 couples. They were from a church outside of town that we had never even visited. But they had heard about our hard year. So they brought in two car loads of gifts and food. The food completely filled our kitchen table!!! The most amazing part to me was that all I had wanted that year was a Barbie doll. Just one. And what did I get? Barbie, Ken, Midge, Skipper and several others along with tons of clothes. And then my grandpa built me a doll house completely with furniture. I still have the couch that he made
I learned that year the value of giving even when you don't know the person. Those people didn't know us. They just knew the need. And they let themselves be used as the hands and feet of God to minister to us. I've never forgotten the blessing they were.

Dancing around the Christmas tree, bowing before the ornaments, sacrificing small children, and basically just being pagan.

Did you know that this statement comes from the days of the Pagan's?
