Yeah, I know what you mean. It is to cut the salt content I think. I use to love fried ham sandwiches, but avoid a lot of food now with high sodium content. Keep the fruit for the fruit salad.
We raised hogs years ago, so that really kind of put me off ham and sausage, but I LOVE bacon!!!!!!!!!!!
We recently had an 18 month old Jersey steer & 2 hogs butchered. We have a freezer full. We would cook one of our own hams but I had the hams cut up into ham steaks. Next time I'll save a whole ham or 2.
Not necessarily. Although there are some parts of the holidays they don't like, my husband and sons enjoy them, too. They particularly like the food.
*I* was the one to suggest cutting back a bit this year, but the whole family objected. The holidays are a big family time for us, and they're special.
Yes, we do make a lot of good memories, what's wrong with that? We still have a lot of memories that we laugh over, and memories DO bind a family together.
God himself instituted a lot of 'remembrances' and feast days. It is what you make of it.
eta: Oh, and my brothers..... LOVE the holidays.
Yes... the ladies in my life think I feel the same way. LOL. We try not to hurt anybody's feelings.
There you go, I am about the only one around here that doesn't eat ham. And one of my grandsons has a medical condition so he has to watch his sodium intake. And he loves ham, bless his heart.

God really luvs us Gentiles and held out the special bacon for us. Yum. If the Jews had behaved, He would have allowed them some of the bacon. Their rebellion is what done it to dem.
Yep... if we all pitched in and bought McRibs from McDonalds... it's about everybody being together. That is the point... and... like weddings... the point is often lost in the hoopla.
Once again I strongly disagree. (I usually always agree with you, D4T, but we're definitely on opposite sides of this debate I went to a no-Christmas church for several years, so I developed very strong opinions on the subject )
In my opinion, we get McD's ribs way too often in our culture. I think it is WONDERFUL that on the holidays people make the time to get in the kitchen and make some really awesome stuff with their very own hands! Who cares if it costs a lot, or takes a lot of time? It's a FEAST. It's fatted calf time.
Our lives are way too busy. We're always pinching pennies. I think it's good and healthy to every once in a while just pull out the stops and PARTY.
There will never be any McRibs at the family gatherings I host as long as I'm alive and kicking!

Well, mine must be outright liars then, because they say things like - "I can't wait for Christmas!!! Mom, are you making those special pancakes? I love this time of year!"
