Hmmm, not sure I totally agree. Many times responsibilities have to be fulfilled that are not necessarily giftings.
But let us always remember the wise words of David "I exercise not myself in things too lofty for me." There is a time to make the attempt and a time to pass the need on to someone more qualified than yourself. And that isn't at all limited to "counselling."

What light through yonder window breaks?
The poet asks, of old -
Steps through broken dreams; she wakes
As insight into destiny unfolds.
Eternities have taken form
From dust and ashes grew.
The heart too sick to take a breath
Only those watching really knew.
Fill this valley of Baca - make it a well
As strength to strength I grow
Except a grain of wheat fall to the ground and die...
Life's light abides alone.

In Christ we are set free by the blood of his death, and so we have forgiveness of sins. Ephesians 1:7
Jesus spoke of freedom, but he spoke of a different kind of freedom: the type of freedom that comes not through power but through submission. Not through control but through surrender. Not through possessions but through open hands.
God wants to emancipate his people, he wants to set them free. He wants his people to be not slaves but sons. He wants them governed not by law but by love.
We have been liberated from our own guilt and our own legalism. We have the freedom to pray and the freedom to love the God of our heart. And we have been forgiven by the only one who could condemn us. We are truly free.
Walking with the Savior, Max Lucado

Bro. Ford,
I will tell you something that I told Donald Fisher [Vice President of JCM 1978]. If God wants me to know or understand something...he will speak to me, not go through you. God's voice is kind and gentle, His spirit loving and true.
God knows me, you don't. God has my best interests in his judgments and affirmations, you don't. God is the one who calls, anoints, sets up, and pulls down...not you.
God forms the weapons that are used against me, but has spoken in his word that they may be used against me, but they will not be successful. Therefore you may rant and rave, say all manner of slander and evil against me...but He who hath begun a good work in me will complete it...despite you, and others like you.
I fear/respect God and I submit to his authority, headship, and discipline. His discipline conforms me to his holiness...unlike the discipline you would give out that would expose past sins, slander, devise evil against another who you don't feel worthy to be used by God.
I am so glad that God is God, and that he uses imperfect vessels and makes them vessels of honor. If he didn't where would I be? And where would you be?
Blessings, Rhoni

gonna jump in and say I completely disagree with these statements.... there are times when God may give your pastor insight about your life that you yourself might not even have yet; that is so your shepherd can help you grow as a person/Christian and know to watch for certain dangers happening in and around your life.... i'm confident that God has shown insights to my pastors (past and current) about my life; that very fact makes me want to trust them even more....
your statements to DF sound very rebellious in nature.... kinda like, You aren't God, so you aren't going to tell me anything.... with the easy attached waiver statement, God will tell me if He wants me to know/do something....
the fabric of this particular post undermines the very principle of submission to a pastor.... my pastor could call me up on the phone right now and ask me any question or tell me anything.... as long as his statement(s) were aligned with the Word, I would act immediately/take heed to.... I certainly wouldn't tell him, God will ask/tell me that if He wants to, but not go through you....
i'm going on record as saying your post reeks of a rebellious spirit....

D.W. Fisher was not my Pastor
RRFord is NOT my Pastor...we've never even met. And you, my fellow poster, are not my judge.

if you were a JCM student when he was there, he certainly was spiritual authority over you.... and I never mentioned RRFord in my post; he has nothing to do with my response.... and do you think of me as just another AFF poster?

Malvaro..you have stirred up and instigated trouble on many threads...I don't know who owns this forum, you may own this forum...but it is inconsequential to me. If you are rude and judgmental then you are rude and judgmental. Don't care who you are.
Blessings, Rhoni
