Re: President Barack Obama!
Father...Mr. Eastman has spoken some very hateful and slanderous things toward me over politics. I ask oh Lord that you not lay this to his charge. I ask oh Lord that you help him to understand what it's like for some of us out here who just want to raise a family with good paying jobs. We may be misguided Lord, I may be misguided. But right now my family is hurting terribly and we need some changes made in how things are done in our country. Lord I really don't know exactly what we need in the way of economic policies...but I do know that what we have right now is leaving my family and millions of other families about to loose everything. Help Mr. Eastman understand this. I know his hatred for gays and his political positions are stronger than his love, concern, or care for us...I ask oh Lord that you forgive him for that also. And Lord, I close asking that you forgive me for breaking ranks with the Heaven's requirement to be a political conservative. I ask Lord that you will also forgive those millions of Christians who will vote Democratic in this election because they need help and feel the Democrats are more likely to offer policies that help them and their families.
In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Translation: Lord forgive me for supporting the abominations of a political party that endorses the freedom to murder untold millions, and please forgive me for putting my seal of approval on those that would allow civil unions to plague this nation. I do this all in the name of supporting my family. I realize Mr. Eastman means well, but I really hate him, please forgive me of my hatred towards him.

First, Democrats are not all in agreement on every policy. Here in Ohio we have some very pro-family and pro-life Democrats. There are Pro Life Democrats throughout the US.
Here's an article of interest from 2005
(the movement has grown in the past 3 years)
Quote:
NEWS & ANALYSIS
Pro-Life Democrats Working to Change Their Party
By Dennis Durband, Editor
September 18, 2005
http://www.azconservative.org/ARTL_Democrats.htm
Yes, Virginia, there is a “Democrats for Life” organization. And it’s changing hearts and minds in the pro-abortion party.
A lot of people don’t think there is such a thing as pro-life Democrats. However, Kristen Day, executive director of Democrats for Life of America, came to this year’s annual Arizona Right to Life (ARTL) state conference to set the record straight.
“Democrats for Life is a group a lot of people didn’t think exists,” Day said. “I’m a proud Democrat, and if there are any pro-life Democrats in the audience today there is a place for you.”
There was at least one such person in the audience – Peggy Oursland, who is starting an Arizona chapter of Democrats for Life.
Pro-life Democrats have been struggling to make inroads in their party in recent years. That’s a tough task in a political party that has a pro-choice position written into its official platform. At the 1996 national convention, Bob Casey, a pro-life governor, was denied a request to speak because he wasn’t politically correct. Those were dark times for pro-life Democrats who favored a big tent with room for members who respect the sanctity of human life, Day recalled.
Democrats for Life of America opened a Washington, D.C., office in 2002 and now have 41 state chapters. Until recently, the party’s leadership did not pay them proper respect.
“We are working with the DNC chair (Howard Dean) to hold him to his promise to us,” Day said. “Howard Dean and Congressman Nancy Pelosi met with us. Previously, they would not return our calls. Pro-life Democrats are making progress. In fighting for the unborn, we will be victorious. A few Democrats changed their position on parental consent because they felt they should support their church position.”
Day said that Senator Ted Kennedy, former Congressman Dick Gephart and Bill Clinton all were pro-life at one time. Current Republican congressmen Norm Coleman and Chris Smith left the Democratic Party, she said.
“Our party is turning good people away and we need to change it,” Day said. “I am often asked why do you stay in the party? We must protect the moral truth that life is to be defended. We Democrats must lead the charge on life, against the destruction of human embryos and the death penalty. We are trying to move our party.”
“We get several invitations a year to join the Republican Party, but we believe pro-life Democrats are vital to this cause,” Day said. “There are some seats that can’t be won by Republicans, and the pro-life cause cannot be won without Democrats. We need people of all parties to pass pro-life laws.”
Day referred to the disastrous election results the Democrats had in 2004, and she said her office received a lot of calls from people struggling with their choice of voting. Some pro-life Democrats voted Republican.
“We are working in the party to move people back to their original position,” Day said. “New congressmen coming in receive so much pressure from Planned Parenthood. There is a new generation of Democrats that we can bring back. The pro-abortion strategy is a complete failure.”
Democrats for Life of America are promoting the “95-10 Initiative” -- a comprehensive package of federal legislation and policy proposals aimed at reducing the number of abortions by 95 percent in the next 10 years. Supporting it are Democratic congressmen Tim Ryan and Marcy Kaptur (Ohio), Bart Stupak (Michigan), Lincoln Davis (Tennessee), Collin Peterson and Jim Oberstar (Minnesota) and Senator Ben Nelson (Nebraska). The initiative includes a lengthy list of pro-life objectives.
Lane Franks, the brother of Arizona pro-life Republican Congressman Trent Franks, attended the annual Arizona Right to Life conference and spoke in support of the 95-10 initiative. “We may have to win the battle incrementally; that’s not compromise,” he said.
ARTL President John Jakubczyk said, “The reason ARTL brought Kristen in is because ARTL is a non-partisan organization. Our goal is that both parties espouse a 100-percent pro-life position. We need two parties to change this country to a culture of life. Republicans must be vigilant and keep their pro-life plank and stop Christie Whitman (the pro-abortion former governor of New Jersey) and the RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) from changing it. Democrats must reclaim their party from the ground up. There were 127 more pro-life Democrats in Congress at one time than there are today. The truth is that pro-life politics wins. If you believe in the sanctity of life, people will appreciate your candor. To everyone who is a Democrat, you take over your party.”
|
And second, every candidate supports ungodly things. And for the record, the Republicans aren't really going to change anything with regards to abortion nor will they do anything about gays. Frankly, there isn't a political party on earth that can address these issues.

Obama reaches out to LGBT community
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=58317
It's not easy to find on his campaign website, but Sen. Barack Obama has issued an open letter to the "LGBT community" assuring them he believes in "full equality" for homosexuals and stating that, unlike Sen. Hillary Clinton, he advocates the complete repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. In the letter, published on a campaign blog, Obama says he's "running for president to build an America that lives up to our founding promise of equality for all – a promise that extends to our gay brothers and sisters."
Pointing out that throughout his career he's "fought to eliminate discrimination against LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Americans," Obama lists some of his specific accomplishments.
- In the Illinois legislature, he "co-sponsored a fully inclusive bill that prohibited discrimination on the basis of both sexual orientation and gender identity, extending protection to the workplace, housing and places of public accommodation."
- In the U.S. Senate, he has co-sponsored bills "that would equalize tax treatment for same-sex couples and provide benefits to domestic partners of federal employees."
As president, he says, "I will place the weight of my administration behind the enactment of the Matthew Shepard Act to outlaw hate crimes and a fully inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act to outlaw workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity."
In the run-up to the recent Texas and Ohio primaries, Obama bought full-page ads in homosexual-oriented newspapers in Columbus, Cleveland, Dallas and Houston.
The ads were the brainchild of Stampp Corbin, co-chairman of Obama's National LGBT Leadership Council, the Advocate newspaper reported. Stern told the 'gay' publication the coordinated buy was "the icing on the cake" in terms of the campaign's outreach to the homosexual community in the two states.
"It's a direct appeal to LGBT voters, asking for their support," Corbin said.
The Advocate said the Obama campaign "has actively been trying to cut into the long-standing ties between gays and lesbians and Sen. Hillary Clinton."
In his letter, Obama says he will also use the presidency's bully pulpit to "urge states to treat same-sex couples with full equality in their family and adoption laws."
The candidate for the White House says he would not prevent legalization of same-sex marriage.
"I personally believe that civil unions represent the best way to secure that equal treatment," he sayes. "But I also believe that the federal government should not stand in the way of states that want to decide on their own how best to pursue equality for gay and lesbian couples whether that means a domestic partnership, a civil union or a civil marriage."
Obama says he has opposed the Defense of Marriage Act since arriving in the Senate three years ago, and, unlike Sen. Clinton and those who say it should be partially repealed, "I believe we should get rid of that statute altogether."
"Federal law should not discriminate in any way against gay and lesbian couples, which is precisely what DOMA does," he says.
The Defense of Marriage Act is a law signed by President Bill Clinton in 1996 that says the federal government and individual states are not required to recognize a same-sex marriage, even if it is recognized by another state.
Obama points out he also has called for repeal of the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy of barring personnel from disclosing homosexual behavior or "orientation" while preventing authorities from investigating it.
The Illinois senator says he also has worked "to improve the Uniting American Families Act so we can accord same-sex couples the same rights and obligations as married couples in our immigration system."
The bill would allow unmarried "permanent partners" of U.S. citizens to obtain permanent resident status in the same manner as spouses.
Obama also addresses the HIV/AIDS epidemic, saying that while abstinence education should be part of any strategy, "We should have age-appropriate sex education that includes information about contraception."
Specifically, he advocates passing the JUSTICE Act to combat HIV infection within the prison population and says "we should lift the federal ban on needle exchange, which could dramatically reduce rates of infection among drug users."
The Justice Act, or Justice for the Unprotected Against Sexually Transmitted Infections among the Confined and Exposed, would provides prisoners with "increased education and prevention," including access to condoms, to reduce the spread of HIV in prisons and in the communities in which prisoners are released.
"In addition, local governments can protect public health by distributing contraceptives," Obama said.
'Prayer and hard work'
"We also need a president who's willing to confront the stigma too often tied to homophobia that continues to surround HIV/AIDS," he emphasizes.
Obama refers to a speech he made at his controversial appearance in late 2006 at Rick Warren's evangelical Saddleback Church in which he "confronted this stigma directly."
As WND reported, Obama told the most recent Saddleback AIDS conference, in November, he would double foreign assistance for AIDS from $25 billion to $50 billion by 2012.
He told the conferees in Southern California he also called for adopting "humanitarian" policies to make it easier to license generic drugs.
"With prayer and hard work, I believe we'll make real strides addressing this scourge and doing God's work on earth," he told the Orange County crowd.
In his letter, Obama says "having the right positions on the issues is only half the battle. The other half is to win broad support for those positions. And winning broad support will require stepping outside our comfort zone."
Along with repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and implementing "fully inclusive laws outlawing hate crimes, he says, it's important to bring "the message of LGBT equality to skeptical audiences as well as friendly ones, and that's what I’ve done throughout my career."
"I will never compromise on my commitment to equal rights for all LGBT Americans," Obama says. "But neither will I close my ears to the voices of those who still need to be convinced. That is the work we must do to move forward together. It is difficult. It is challenging. And it is necessary."

Re: President Barack Obama!
TR,
I feel ya man. I don't like it either. Even McCain is for civil unions. I guess I've just come to grips with the fact that it's eventually going to be a reality and that the church will have to address it because the government clearly isn't going to.
What do you suggest we do with gay citizens who want the right to live their lives as they choose?
What do we do with gay affirming churches that want to exercise their religious freedom to affirm these people and their unions?
Is this really within the realm of government or is this something we as a church should deal with down on the private level through preaching and the power of the Holy Ghost?
Those are just some sincere questions that come to mind when I read about these things in articles such as the one you posted above.

Re: President Barack Obama!
This is just a friendly reminder that everyone should be addressing the issues, and not attacking the person. We've seen several postings that seem to be calling other posters christianity into question. This is not just coming from one poster. Political discussions often become heated.
Once words are spoken, you can't take them back. The damage is already done. Rather than posting in anger, take a break from the discussion for a while, and return later.
