They keep cooking down and you keep adding water to keep them from scorching. THEY ARE AWESOME! Last time, I added just a little sugar and they were even better. Chicken broth is the bomb, and it has no fat!
How much chicken broth do you use, Sherri?

I think the last time I made them I used three cans of green beans and two cans of chicken broth (the regular size). I guess you could do these in the crock pot, since they have to cook a long time. I have just always done them on the stove, when I'm going to be home all afternoon.

You can also get the same flavor to the beans by draining & rinsing the canned beans-- replace the liquid with fresh water.. and throw in a chicken bullion cube for every two cans of beans. I won't cook green beans any other way.... and the longer they simmer slowly, the better they taste.

I'm anxious to hear what you all think of this dish after you make it.

Oh, and what a great idea - modifying the uppity green beans!!! I've wanted to make them for our church monthly potluck, but sure can't do it for 60-70 people in bundles. Now I can give it a shot. I know they'll be a big hit!!
MARGIE, MARGIE MARGIE!!!!

I made your dish last night..

talk about GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!

I had a slight modification b/c I left the recipe in my purse downstairs and i was already cooking...

but!

I cooked the sausage in very little water over medium heat so they would really "Pop" you know? I took them up just as they started to brown real good and carmalize...that stuff they leave in the pan is so good it's sinful.

Anyway, I put in a WHOLE stick of butter (real kind not that faux mess) Anyway, put in my potatoes I had halved, (some I cut into 3 b/c of their size). I then read your reciepe an realized I'd probably used too much butter....Well, I decided I didnt want to water down the flavor any so I went a head and added my half bag of onion since they would release water...I bypassed the adding water all together....

Well, I let this cook kinda slow so it wouldnt burn and after I added a whole bag of frozen green beans, I added a half stick of the "I cant believe its not butter" since it was gonna stick other wise...

I just let this all cook covered while I made my carrots...

See, I was CRAVING the Uppidey Green beans but the dish already had green beans in them...so I made my carrots a little snotty!

I took a stick of butter in a sauce pan, added garlic and a good size teaspoon of brown sugar - let his cook a while then added two cans of drained carrots to the pot and let it heat throughout and simmer a little...

can you say OH MY GOODNESS??

it was so good I kept complimenting myself and you!!

ROFL!!

Got any more great ideas? This was SO easy to fix

Oh, and for added flavor, I diced two of the pieces of sausage after it was cooked and let it "cook" with the potatoes and onions
