I think that if you've been invited to sing at an event and the people who have asked you to take part also ask that you not speak in tongues audibly that you should .......

1. either comply or

2. simply not attend.
Could you make a bit simpler? What you've proposed sounds too complicated and we may need another 32 pages to get it sorted out.

I agree.

If I were a pastor I would request all leadership NOT speak in tongues into the mic in personal worship.

I find the request totally reasonable for Pentecostals and non-Pentecostals alike.

Exactly. When the Spirit of the Lord starts to move...there is no telling what can come out of the mouth of a person full of the Holy Ghost!!!

Then let them make the decision...chances are, they'll change their mind.

I do not believe we should ever allow someone else to dictate whether or not we will speak about Jesus or worship Him. Look at what Daniel did, in defiance to what he was told? He worshipped 3 times a day as he had always done.

When there is presented a choice between worshipping God or denying any aspect of our faith, we have to make that choice. To cave in, or to even say nothing, is, in my mind, denying Christ.

I think being straightforward and honest is what Paul would do. I can't imagine Paul saying, "Okay, I won't mention the name of Jesus," or, "Alright, I promise not to talk in tongues." Jesus broke all kinds of religious rules.

I say that folks know who you are and what you believe in, and they will respect you less if you cave in to their requests. I think if you stand up for what you believe in, God opens the doors...you don't need men to open them for you, and God can change their minds and soften their hearts and remove their objections.
MissBratt,

This is exactly what I was trying to say here:

You just said it so much better than I did!!

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.

That would be your prerogative as the pastor. Personally, I don't have a problem with speaking in tongues in public meetings as long as it isn't majorly disruptive or out of order. There would be times when it might not be (in order I mean).

Is God going to be there if they've banned His Spirit!?! (Sorry, couldn't resist)

I imagine it's a huge honor. All I could suggest is pray about it and follow the leading of God. Maybe even ask the advice of a minister you know and respect.
