Re: Obama For Mosque at Ground Zero
"We tend to forget, in the West, that the United States has more Muslim blood on its hands than al-Qaeda has on its hands of innocent non Muslims," Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf said in 2005.

Re: Obama For Mosque at Ground Zero
Is the Imam really collecting money from extremist groups?
The Imam is working with the State Department, and has done so under Pres. Bush and Clinton. Outreach to Muslims countries, traveling with Rabbis and Priests.
Has any money been raised yet for the Community Center project?
Many say the Imam is a "peaceful man" and has shown himself to be inter-faith, a bridge-builder, etc.
Fear and anger cloud judgement -- are we all thinking clearly?
So far, I've read on here some lofty conspiracy-related ideas about Islam's motivation (collectively) of making this building a mockery of Ground Zero.
Just thinking out loud tonight.

How far should the Mosque be? 4 blocks? 10 blocks? 14 blocks?

Re: Obama For Mosque at Ground Zero
Howard Dean opposes Mosque!
The right is there, but what kind of message does this send to Americans, in terms of healing the Muslim-American relationship. The Imam may be non-violent, but he also is not an American sympathizer and sees America at-fault.
The decency in this situation, Dean says, is what is at stake.
Whether they think it is "bigoted" or not, it's disrespectful of the American public to just ignore them. It's actually quite self-righteous.
More random thoughts on this issue tonight.

He is not a peacefull man. That is a front he puts on.
When he speaks in Arabic, it is the same disgusting Muslim jihad talk.
This was covered on Pajamas Media last week.

Re: Obama For Mosque at Ground Zero
This article perfectly addresses the issue!!
Quote:
A Test of ToleranceThe "Ground Zero mosque" debate is about tolerance—and a whole lot more.
I do not find myself reassured by the fact that Imam Rauf publicly endorses the most extreme and repressive version of Muslim theocracy. The letterhead of the statement, incidentally, describes him as the Cordoba Initiative's "Founder and Visionary." Why does that not delight me, either?
As for the gorgeous mosaic of religious pluralism, it's easy enough to find mosque Web sites and DVDs that peddle the most disgusting attacks on Jews, Hindus, Christians, unbelievers, and other Muslims—to say nothing of insane diatribes about women and homosexuals. This is why the fake term Islamophobia is so dangerous: It insinuates that any reservations about Islam must ipso facto be "phobic." A phobia is an irrational fear or dislike. Islamic preaching very often manifests precisely this feature, which is why suspicion of it is by no means irrational.

Part of the problem is that we don’t know where the $100 million dollars in funding is coming from. The foundation behind the Imam refused to answer regarding if they were or were not taking funds from Iran, Malaysia, or Saudi Arabia. If they are receiving funds from governments hostile to the United States this could be a serious issue.
Yes, this Imam has worked for the State Department under President Bush. That doesn’t put him above scrutiny, nor does it mean that we not consider his motivations seeing that his books and speeches express his desire to see Shariah courts established in the United States wherein Muslims are subject to Islamic law instead of Constitutional Law. The Constitution grants ALL citizens equal representation under the law. To allow Muslims to be subject to a different law violates the Constitution of the United States of America and is an attack on the very sense of justice America was built upon.
While the Imam is billed as a man of peace, why would a man of peace push forward on a project that deeply hurts and offends millions and millions of Americans? Obviously he isn’t concerned about interfaith relations.
As for the mosque being a “mockery of ground zero”. The reason why so many see it this way is that Islam has a tradition of building a mosque on the site of a military victory against their enemies. The name of this mosque will be the “Cordoba House”. This is relevant because the mosque will be named after the “Great Mosque of Cordoba” in Spain. The Great Cordoba Mosque was built by the Umayyads on the site of a Christian Visigothic Church in the Andalusian city of Córdoba, Spain, after their jihadist conquest of the region. It is regarded as perhaps the most accomplished monument of the Umayyad dynasty of Córdoba. After the Spanish Catholics took the region back, it was rebuilt as Roman Catholic church with a Gothic cathedral inserted into the centre of the large Moorish building. Today the entire building is used to house the Cathedral of the diocese of Córdoba in Spain. By naming the Ground Zero Mosque, “Cordoba House”, the Islamic message is essentially, “Remember the Great Cordoba Mosque!”… right at the site of the 9/11 attacks. Western culture doesn’t catch this gesture of genocidal religious intolerance. But those who are well acquainted with Islamic history knows what this symbolizes. It is indeed a slap in the face, a mockery, and celebration of the atrocity committed by 19 terrorists on 9/11.

The issue is where the mosque will currently be according to current plans. Many argue that it’s blocks away from Ground Zero. Not so. It’s blocks away from the WTC site, but it is still within the parameters of Ground Zero. Please note, the only reason why the building is available is because it was damaged by one of the engines that fell from one of the planes that hit the Twin Towers. The mosque will be within “Ground Zero” of the attacks, meaning the areas directly affected by the attacks.
This is a serious “cultural attack” that will deeply embolden our enemies and demoralize the American psyche. Welcome to “Spiritual Warfare 101”.
