I grew up in a nice town that perserved the outdoor areas. Oak trees were preserved even on house site building lots. It was an ACORN factory. Every day after school (September) we would collect acorns in what we called ACME bags. These were the paper bags that groceries were packed in.
The collection phase lasted 1-2 weeks and was communial.
Very pretty green/yellow acorns plus many all brown acorns with a splash of yellow (God even makes ACORNS beautiful). De-capped and dumped into the doubled grocery bag until the bag was bulging.
With 2-4 bags collected, we split up into two teams on opposite sides of the road and commenced to rain down our oak-based ordinance. The number of times I was hit in the face, head, and neck, yet without eye injury was miraculous.
I wonder if it was just because of the absence of malice?
Don't get me wrong, each battle probably sent one or more "little Johnnies" home crying, but the walk home was fairly long so you could basically recover before reaching mom (who would never let you back out because it was almost dinner!).
Back home we have Catalpa (sp)trees. these things produce a pod about 18 inches long. we would have wars where we threw these at each other like daggers and one end was pretty sharp. One time this poor kid came over and he had shorts on.
I pegged him in the leg and it stuck! he was jumping up and down screaming with this catalpa pod bouncing up and down! we didnt really like that kid so it was really funny. he didnt come back and play with us. (yea I know, Im mean)

I did learn to forge my father's signature when I skipped out of school!
I started signing my own report cards at the age of ten! LOL!
They never knew!
I also would take detention slips out of the mailbox and burn them before my mom got home. This was the days before cell phones and answering machines!! HAHAHAHAHA!!
In 1982, I was in 8th grade. I broke the record for the most detentions, which was 49.
I got 56 that year. Served about 12 of them.
I'm sure my name is still mentioned in that school.....
Is this a good time to mention that I also missed 34 days of school that year?

I've gone and done it now! I'm on Facebook!!!
My dad had a bunch of Merle Haggard eight tracks. "Okie from Muskogee", "Mama tried", and all that sad stuff.
I had an eight track player in my Mustang convertible. I had the same Merle Haggard tape. Those were the days, eh? All those trips to the repair shop to have the tapes repaired. Thank God for the cassette player that replaced them!

Ok, I'll bite.
How do you avoid serving the penalty for 44 of your 56 infractions?
(Does it have something to do with your handwriting skills?)
