There is one person in my life that I know of that won't speak to me to this day. I don't live near her any longer, so I never run into her, but when I wasn't doing what she thought I should be doing in church (standards related), she wrote me off as not worthy of friendship. It hurt me, because I love this woman and we were close friends. I think of her often, and wish we could connect once again. I miss her more than she realizes.

I'm thankful, however, that she's the only one out of everyone I know. I hope that if I shunned anyone in my life that God would slap the snot out of me but good.
We have been shunned....it's not biblical, but its true all the same, even by family...and many who said they loved us, who treated us as family....I think there are times when its appropriate, but those are when people have turned their back on God and are living in open sin...which I promise you is not us! We have even been called reprobates...my word if they look up the meaning they would for sure save that for someone else and not us!

Those with the bad attitudes who shun others and condemn them to hell for man-made rules are the ones with the real problems. I want to obey ALL that the Bible requires and I want to respect my pastor - but those things that you mentioned are too extreme.

Thank God you were not collateral damage.
Amen Sis...I have my eyes on God now(when in the church it was more on the ministry)...He is my salvation and my comforter, and by far so much kinder than most men on earth....I will NOT turn my back on God not for one second...that is one thing that those left behind don't seem to believe, that our leaving the church is not a parallel to turning our backs on God...in truth its just the other way around..our focus is much more on HIM now....

carey, you are right, many that have not been around it cannot comprehend it. People, trust me, they are out there!! even in the year 2007!!

We had one in our area (back in the 80s & 90s) who use to beat his members up physically if they disobeyed him.

I have a friend who told me about another one in his area who had a paddle in his office and would give grown Men and women a whipping for breaking the standards or rules.
Why would a grown adult stand there and let the pastor hit him? That's insane!

The scare them too they tell them that the people that left have a spirit on them of rebellion, and they are deceived and if you get near them the spirit will get on you...they tell you things that make you look at others and have suspicion.
