I have preached for more than one Apostolic preacher (UPC) whose wife ended up leavong because she could no longer take the abuse...I won't name names but you probably know at least two of them...
I have also preached for more than one UC...who would NEVER watch a tv much less own one...who's marriaged ended in divorce because he was having an affair with the sec...or some other woman he knew....
So the pride comes before a fall principle applies in the Apostolic movement as well so don't forget that in this discussion.

Beautifully done! You and I are on the same wavelink I think. It is always funny to see when people point fingers at other. Elder Epley stated the stuff about family things. Well the truth is that maybe she does not have everything right, but we can draw the same line on their preaching. JB may not have all the family stuff together, yet still writes about it and some of these UC's do not have everything right about grace and mercy, but yet still preach it!?!?! JMO

This is very sad and the fact has nothing to do with what she believes, what we believe or what I believe. I once had an ultra con in my home and he slapped his wife. So abuse is in every camp. It has nothing to do with what a person believes.
I have letters from people that seemed and seem so happy asking for prayer along those lines...
While some have laughed about marriages counselors working in churches or people that know what they are doing terrible things have happened and continue.
We live in an age of abuse...we need as leaders to try to learn as much as we can about helping people. (that´s my thoughts)

She and her husband were considered counselors of a sort. They held marriage/singles conferences several times. As a matter of fact I attended them and they were great. See how the enemy sets out to destroy God's people.

Very good question and I don't know.
My own dad, who is normally pretty open minded about a lot of things has a bugaboo against any consoling, other than pastoral, in the church himself. It's like the idea got lodged in the head at some point and no amount of shaking will get it out, or even loose.
I am sure if Chan, if he were around, would step in at this point and proclaim the evils of counseling, but the fact is that more is needed. It is NOT a magic bullet which will end every and all abuse, but it will certainly help to make things better and head off SOME situations which could have been avoided.

I think Chan would argue that it the "type" or philosophy behind the method of counseling used.
