I don't think it looks good for the church for him to be homeless either. Some would see and then say, "What good is a church that lets its members become homeless without helping them." The misses doesn't think it is a good idea for him to stay with us and I am really unsure as to what I should do-- if I should do any thing at all. I am not his Pastor, but I have ministered to this young man numerous times. What would you do?
Can't really say what ought to be done since I don't know his situation. You say you think he's lazy but...

Yeah, he can work. There are jobs here. He only wants certain jobs.

He needs to file unemployment. Then he can sleep in and eat ramen.

Heres the deal. If he indeed loses his place, offer him to stay in the Church building temporarily...if....he will go out and look for work. If he REFUSES to look for work he will have to shift for himself.

The Pastor is not going to provide any kind of natural help for this young man. I understand the logic. I agree with the logic on one hand and see the potential train wreck on the other hand.

2 Peter 3:9 Jesus doesn't want anyone to miss glory.

Let the ministry and the church family work together as a team. This kid is most likely sharing things with the pastor that has never been shared with you. I'm serious, you might open a box, that cannot be shut, or unleash something that can't be halted. When I was young there was a Twilight Zone episode that had an individual who was stranded when his car broke down. It was raining a storm, and he finds this old house. A religious order lived there. The man was given a room and instructed never to go near the door down the hall. Well, as these types of stories go, the guy couldn't resist the temptation. He went to the door and the a barred window he spoke with the man locked inside. Turns out that the religious order locked him in there, and he was not allowed out. The only thing keeping him in was a small shepherd's staff through the bolt holes. Well, the prisoner gave the guy a teary eyed story and plea for help. How the religious order were really sick cult members who only wanted to torture one of their backsliders. So, the stranded traveler quickly removes the little Shepard's staff from the door bolt holes, and releases the prisoner only to have the prisoner knock him to the ground, and walk off flinging a black cape around his body to enter the storm outside. The prisoner was Satan. The leader of the religious order tracked Satan for years captured him and locked him up in their cloistered order.

Said all that to say this, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Helping people who have mountain of issues, both spiritual and physical, is a full time job. Support the ministry, they have the full time job to invest.
When you lean over the mechanics back to hand him a wrench. One he never asked for, you may just drop it in the manifold, causing even more work.

Be a help not a hindrance.

Pastor did make it clear that the church would not provide any natural help to this young man...
