So to and all, stand by Carl's info over mine!
Brother Votive, last week at the winter camp meeting someone mentioned this from the pulpit, although his name was not mentioned, just that it was a member of the White House administration. Looking at his bio it must have been in the early to mid nineties.

It is amazing how some things get embellished, but apparently this did not.

I do remember Speaker Ryan also visiting Parkway when he was in just his second term in the house, as well as some other local politicians. It's nice that we rub elbows with these people but somehow it always becomes so much more as the story is passed around. Maybe the district could have put out an official response to the rumor? LOL!

Yup. Governor Edwin Edwards of Louisiana faithfully visited Louisiana Campmeeting each and every year to great the congregation and make a contribution. There was a close relationship there that was mutually beneficial but had zero effect on Edwards morals.

The Governor who once made the statement "the only way the people of Louisiana will turn against me is if I am found in bed with a dead woman or live boy" later went to prison for a graft scheme when gambling was approved in Louisiana. He was a real character!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
