hmm, isn't that 5%? But i get your point. I wouldn't judge by this, anyway, as i suspect most "higher" education is yack; so BAM, send it to the circus!

No. The cut was $250 Million over 2 years. From what I've read UW's budget is 6 Billion. So $12 Billion over two years divided by $250 Million = 2%, not .02%, but still very small considering its massive budget.

Didn't know that.
According to Pitta, Walker is to be blamed for any and everything wrong in Wisconsin. He reminds me of the liberals who blamed any and everything on Bush.

Re: Scott Walker 2016?

Walker used our budget to showboat his run for the presidency. It never occurs to him the long term impact of the choices he has made.

The 250 million will become 400 million when the interest is repaid. Adding unnecessary long term debt to the state the same week Puerto Rico and Greece make the headlines shows how unaware Walker is of the choices he makes.

I disagree with his using of taxpayer money for this stadium, but the impact of this won't be more than a ripple because of the cut in UW's payout.

Actually, the public contribution (aka taxpayer money) will be capped at $250 million. $80 million from state-wide taxpayers and the rest of the $170 from local taxes.

Again, I don't agree with taxpayer money being used to build stadiums for wealthy owners.

It's notable that even the Koch brothers and their Wisconsin chapter of Americans for Prosperity are against the deal and call it a "bad deal for Wisconsin taxpayers." A lot of other Republicans oppose it as well.

Of course, if people are going to bash Walker for using taxpayer funds for a stadium, they should do the same with every other mayor and governor who has done the same.

I am consistent along that line. We should be avoiding debt like the plague.

Re: Scott Walker 2016?

It's really disappointing that Mayors and Governors all over the country fall for the line being fed them that 1) building a new stadium will result in an increase in the local economy; and 2) if the team moves away, it will cause the local economy to collapse.

More cities should be like San Fransisco, which has repeatedly rejected taxpayer-funded stadiums.

I agree. Billionaires can pay for their own stadiums.

Re: Scott Walker 2016?

Looks like Walker prefers was with Iran. Do we really need to go to war with Iran ? Is his ignorance of the region shinning through ?

Remember, Walker's iron mine hired mercenaries to face off with citizens in Wisconsin. Then, after it was discovered that they had no business license to work here, pulled out and left.

I prefer peace and diplomacy over another needless war.

Re: Scott Walker 2016?

Walker is skipping the FL primary.

Scott Walker has insisted he will be able to “compete anywhere in the country” as a candidate for president — but, at a private event in St. Louis on Sunday, Walker said he does not plan to compete in Florida, contradicting his own public assertions that he would not skip that primary.

During a fundraiser at the St. Louis home of Rex Sinquefield, Missouri’s most active Republican donor, Walker reasoned that it “doesn't make a ton of sense for him to pour cash into Florida” with Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio in the race, said one person who was present for Walker’s remarks. Bush is a former Florida governor, and Rubio is a senator from Florida.

This has happened before where a candidate has decided to skip the primary held in another candidate's state. Especially if the other candidate is well known and liked.

And if he doesn't have a massive war chest like Bush or the others, it's not wise to waste money on a state he likely won't win.
