Re: Scandal Hitting Chris Christie
OOOps....
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) appeared to issue conflicting statements to the press Thursday, telling reporters that he first learned of emails tying his staff to “bridge-gate” yesterday morning, but also claiming he had “lost a lot of sleep for the last two nights.”

Besides, this has been in the news before yesterday. I thought I read about it a week or so ago.

All the Governor has to do is switch parties and this will all go away.

He won't switch parties and even if he did, it still wouldn't go away-- and it shouldn't.

His response seems shockingly arrogant to me, but this isn't big enough to derail his Presidential ambitions.

Did you watch the press conference. It was almost 2 hours long. I was late getting in, and stopped watching after his initial statements and about 30 minutes of questioning. IMO he was as conciliatory as he could be. Several times he mentioned he was wrong, he apologized, he said his office violated the trust of the people of NJ.
It was everything obama should say about Fast & Furious, IRS, Benghazi, and his obamacare whopper, but hasn't.
Christie was adamant that he knew nothing about it, but I didn't think he was arrogant. I don't recall him downplaying the effects of the closures. If he didn't feel it was that big of a deal, he wouldn't have fired his Deputy Chief of Staff, and forced a couple others to resign or withdraw from their posts.

This wouldn't even be a blip on the media if his name was barack obama.

Thousands more of emails were released this morning. If Christie was truthful and there is no evidence showing he either ordered the closures or even joked or hinted at doing so...then this should pass. The individual involved was fired, and several others have been removed from their positions. Christie has done more to confront this than obama would ever think of doing.

I think he knew about it before it happened.
He knew about it after it happened.
He's sorry because people are making a stink about it.
If he was really sorry, he should have stopped it once he was made aware.
And the way traffic was affected, he would have HAD TO KNOW within day 1 of that bridge's closure. The affects of that action were immediate and very clearly seen.
He ignored it. He "didn't think it was a big deal".

I agree that he knew about the closures, he's even mentioned knowing about the closures, but said he was told it was a traffic study. I have yet to find any evidence that he knew it was politically motivated from the beginning.
I agree that he should have acted before the NY transit higher ups did. Even if it was a traffic study, as he claims he was told, he had the authority and should have stepped in to reopen the lanes. It went on for five days...too long IMO.

He said he learned one day ago that it was tied to his inner circle. IIRC, earlier this week there were already a few in the state legislature who were demanding both state and fed investigations into it....which is how the emails were found.
I didn't see any problem or mistake with what he said.
