Re: But, what would YOU say?

What about what Jesus taught, you guys run to the Apostles like they are the God and ignore everything Jesus said before Acts, I believe in Repentance, and water baptism, but all the Water is for is a symbolic showing just as Michael the Disciple said above"29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. They were saved in Verse 31, then they spoke the word of the lord, then they got Baptised..

And how do you guys that hold Acts 2:38 near and dear with the evidence explain "And you "will receive" part of this verse....not you might or you have to try or have the preacher shake it out of you or you have to pray for it for 10 years then it happens..etc,etc,etc It says you "will recieve"
Acts 2:38
New International Version (NIV)

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Re: But, what would YOU say?

The Apostles aren't worshiped, as if they were higher than God. But THIS is recognized (and too often missed by non-Apostolics):

Matthew 10:40,

Quote:
40. He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
John 13:20,

Quote:
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
John 17:14-20,

Quote:
14. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word...
We denigrate the importance of the Apostles to our peril.

Ephesians 2:19-21,

Quote:
19. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20. And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21. In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord...
The entire foundation of New Jerusalem is build, in part on the Apostles.

Revelation 21:14,

Quote:
And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
So, it's not about supplanting God or Christ with the Apostles. It's recognizing that the Word of God and His Christ was, is, and will always be directed to the world, first and foremost, through the Apostles.

They would NEVER answer what Peter answered.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Act 2:40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

ANYTHING!!! Annnnnnythinnnnnnnnng, but what the Apostle Peter said.

Anything but taking Jesus at His word.

Joh 11:26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"

Do you believe this?

It wasn't what was said, it's what occurred.

What would have been your answer to Jesus?

I would have said, "To those of you whom God has granted repentance, be baptized in the authority of Jesus Christ because of the remission of sins..."
