Re: Parents Consent To Baptize Children
If the damnation to hell of the child's soul was in jeopardy, should't someone baptize the person correctly so that they would not go to hell? For example, suppose the child had called upon Jesus and spoken in tongues but was in a trinitarian 'church' and was baptized wrong. The child then visits a true 'apostolic church' and believes he, or she, must have another man intone "Jesus" during baptism for the baptism to be a valid baptism.
The child's soul is hanging in the balance. Another man hasn't performed the baptismal ritual correctly on his, or her, behalf. Why must the parents give their approval before the individual is re-baptized?

Re: Parents Consent To Baptize Children
I would still encourage them to gain parental permission until such a time that they were of legal age. But, that would also be predicated on a case by case basis. There have been young people evicted from their homes by their parents for choosing to obey and follow God. In this modern world of 'decide for yourself' spirituality, some of these problems may become less difficult than they were in the past.

I think it is shocking too, Cindy.
No, I think even a child of 16, needs his parents
approval of doing a baptism.
I wonder if a pastor has ever been sued over
situations like this?

I believe it has happened. They just had permission from one parent, and the other parent disagreed with that decision.

Re: Parents Consent To Baptize Children
Baptism IS the parents decision for their children~~ Even if they are or were "baptized wrong" . No preacher/pastor or church official has the right to baptize, no matter what the child may ask for or want. This is an open and shut case of parents rights being violated. A local Baptist Church was sued over this a few years back~ They would use Carnivals, and other fun things to attract kids of all ages and at one time had baptized over 5,000 kids. The church had to pay damages of countless amounts back to each family for not gaining parental consent. A few of the children even accused church officials of touching them inappropriately while baptizing them. Unfortunately.....since the parents were not present, nor any other "official", it was the childs word against the adult.......

I have heard of this as well....this is what would be a very sticky issue where one parent says yes, the other says no.

Re: Parents Consent To Baptize Children
Soooo.....a parent has the right to deny their child's salvation? This is akin, in some respects, to the Jehovah Witness deciding on the life and death of their children concerning blood transfusions.

Re: Parents Consent To Baptize Children
No, seekerman. It has to do with usurping God given parental authority. Perhaps this is how David Koresh and Jim Jones got started.

Re: Parents Consent To Baptize Children
I really don't think its denying a child's salvation per say.....and as for the JW deciding on their own child's life??? It is unfortunate (in this case) and ultimately the parents decision!
