If an armed man is pursuing you for no reason, at what point can the one being pursued invoke the stand your ground law as justification to physically engage? You say that chasing a kid with a weapon is not reason for him to physically attack, but you easily accept that the one doing the chasing had reason to use deadly force? Something there does not compute with me...and it has nothing to do with race.
If someone were chasing you, with a gun, would you stop and engage that person with the gun? No. You wouldn't. You'd run for dear life, if in fact, you hadn't done anything and were just walking through the neighborhood.
So, logically, we can assume that Trayvon didn't in fact know the man had a gun.
Following, pursuing, whatever you want to call it, the point is that at some point these two got into a physical altercation. From Zimmerman's testimony, it was trayvon who engaged him first. If this is true...case dismissed, under the wording of the law in that state.

From the public pronouncements that I have heard from Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, Barack Obama, and Spike Lee they spew vitriol against "white" folks and justify anything that "black" folks do or say.
This testimony is far less relevant to me than what I read from his former co-worker as to why he was fired as a security guard...

Sigh...I'm not going to keep beating this dead horse, but I will try one last time to make some of you step back and be more objective. All I'm asking is why anyone would take Zimmerman's word alone that he was pursued and attacked and therefore justified in killing, but completely and outrightly reject the possibility that whatever Trayvon did physically was because he was pursued and cornered. The only purely objective evidence (the recording) clearly has Trayvon attempting to flee and an angry Zimmerman pursuing. That is undebatable.
The other evidence (where the actual attack took place in relation to his truck among other) does not give rise to this absolute conviction that Zimmerman was the only one justified in standing his ground.
Once again, I did not form any opinion at all about this case until I heard the recording. If the races were reversed or if both were the same race, nothing would change my impression of what I heard.

I think when you are trying to piece together events and his credibility is central, some of those things do matter. Particularly if the testimony of the security company employee holds up. That paints him as a pseudo, tough-guy wanna-be cop who is prone to unnecessary and unprovoked violence and over-reaching in his "authority".

If the situation was reversed and it was Trayvon Martin who had shot George Zimmerman, there is no way the police would have released Trayvon Martin with no charges filed. This is an example of racism alive and well in the United States. By the way, I am white. Racism is also why so many so-called christians hate President Obama and everything he tries to do. "I want my country to go back to how things used to be" are just code words for "We need a white President.
