Re: Be In the World
First off...bbyrd009, not really sure why you felt the need to put my name in a thread I wasn't even commenting on... but okay.... just seems a little weird, LOL.
First off, the "I'll fly away... " mentality, vocabulary, and even music is out of poor use of definition and wording, but relays the same message. First off, you have to agree that "heaven" is where a soul is resting with the Lord until the end time. So it's that resting place, "to be absent from the body..." Secondly, many folks are really talking about that place with the walls of Jasper, gates of Pearl, etc... which really is the New Jeruselam, and not heaven (which literally means third heaven, the outer space). 99% of the time, they are talking about that eternal place of reward, where the streets are of gold, walls of jasper, etc.... which is the New Jeruselam, which will be on the New Earth....
Now, this Scripture at hand... I honestly don't think this Scripture really has much that's hard to understand, and if we want to over complicate it, we can, but it's simple....
Be in the world.... don't be isolationists. Now that you are mine, don't go off into the woods and build a compound waiting for me to take ya... Don't forget that now you are to be a highways and biways people, still using the gift of love and relationship to be my witnesses to those that don't know me. Walk, work, live, raise your families in this world... it's where I've stationed you for now....
But not of this world.... do your business according to the dictates of the Kingdom of God, where your citizenship is. You are bound by a different code of conduct, a different way of relating to struggles, problems, challenges, and even people. You won't find joy in everything your surroundings finds joy in, you won't find anxiety in all the things your surroundings finds anxiety in.
This Scripture isn't hard at all, it's the orders you give any Ambassodor. Go live in that country, get to know the people, do business with them, understand them, communicate and love on them... but always remember you represent a different Kingdom... and your overall code of conduct, and foundation of understanding is based there. Your not in that land to be a citizen, but merely an ambassador and representative of the Kingdom of which you belong. Don't go sit in the embassy and wait till your assignment is over.... Go live... but live like a man/woman, from another land.

Re: Be In the World
how about be in the world in relationships, caring about what is going on, but don't let it affect your Spirit, instead set your affections on things above.

Bro. Robbins... when you saw your screen name show up on the post with the outer space picture... that is a "trick" commonly used on this to personalize the post with the screen name of the reader showing up so it makes you think at first you are the one being addressed in the post... but not so... each one that reads the post sees their name show up
They got me too when I was new around here too ....

This is good! We can't all join a commune or go huddle in a corner waiting for the "terrible day of the Lord" .... yet that is what so many have done in a sense. I'm all ready to "go to heaven" now I'm just gonna sit here in my house, and wait for the Lord to come back....
I like the reminder that we are ambassadors, in the world, yet not of the world.

Yes, I like this too... and even more so... let us affect the world around us, instead of letting the world change us...

Re: Be In the World
If one will study Church History for the purpose of just seeing the impact, good or bad, that the church universal has had on culture, one will quite easily see this. Until the mid 20th century, it was the church that was impacting culture, and even dictating many things within it. It was the church that was making the difference... but long about the 50's, the culture began to really dictate the path the church was taking.
And look today, we let the culture dictate and drag the church along into the music we have, the way we look, the ministries and programs we conduct... all in the name of "let's be relevant", when it really is... "let's try to be more like the world."
We must be ambassadors of another land, of another culture, of another way of living... shining and impacting those around us to be the ones that see the need for change. That don't need us to be more like them, they need us to be more like Jesus....

Re: Be In the World
I'd settle for "a little bit like Jesus," lol.

Amen to that, and the posts around it.
"Did you exchange
a walk-on part in the War
for a Lead Role in a cage?"
Most preachers just need more rock and roll, imo.

Amen to this...
Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

I know that you posted this 3 months ago but I just happened to stumble upon this recently, and was wondering if there was any reason in particular that you said that to me lol
Btw you brought up some good points in this thread. I do believe this is an error commonly made by many Christians.
