Ahhh... There is a fountain. Brings tears to my eyes.
I'll have to see if I can find a chord chart for that one.

I do like to try to have an older song most services. It honors our elders and it keeps some great old songs in the memory of everyone. We surely don't what to lose them. That's really part of the reason for opening the thread... with hopes that someone would remind me of some great old songs that I haven't thought of so I can sing more of them.
My daughter is our keyboardist and she likes some songs that, while I do like them personally, I recognize that their modern complexities (whether that be lyrically or musically) don't lend themselves to ease of worship... so we don't sing those. So all of these things are issues that we must be mindful of. I am attempting to train her to recognize the usefulness of songs from all angles.
Also... she used to start songs with verses & choruses at altar call... generally speaking... you don't do that. At altar call you want a song that goes along with the message... that can take a background... and that most everyone knows. This is necessary so that people don't "think" too much about the song while prayer is going on or the pastor is speaking. If you start singing verses then people move their focus from the spirit/prayer/pastor to the song and that isn't our pupose at that time.
Anyway... all that to say... yeah. I hear ya. And I agree.
I'm not giving a broad brushed approval of all new songs. I just want praise & worship and I find a lot of what I'm looking for there.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I wish EVERY worship leader and keyboard player and praise singer could get this through their head!!!!

LOL... It seems like "horse sense" to me... but sometimes folks don't get it.

I meant no disrespect when stating I didn't care for it. Back in the day, it was one of those 7-11 songs we sang over and over and over again, nearly every week.
If I heard it today, or sang it during church service now, I'd probably not be so hesitant in singing along; the music is far more diverse nowadays where I go to church...

Re: Old vs New - Worship Music
Speaking of old, last night we sang "Oh, How I Love Jesus" a capella. The harmonizing was so rich and beautiful. Usually, Wednesday nights are smaller, more personal atmospheres for teaching. And it was so great to sing a simple, yet beautiful chorus such as that one...

Not sure if you want fast or slow songs, but FWIW:
I love him
I love him
Because He first loved me
And purchased my salvation on Calvary's tree
Down at the Cross where my Savior died
Down where from cleansing from sin I cried
There to my heart was the blood applied
Glory to his NAME!

Ahh....someone else who likes the Imperials.
My all time favorite is "Praise the Lord". It is an encouraging song when I feel down in the dumps.
