You did not have to be a Rhodes scholar to do the math and see that they had sold way more nights stay at their hotel than was physically possible.
I hated to see their fall because PTL was a much better Christian TV network than TBN. It had better programming in my opinon and instead of a little clique of the same performers actually aired some good concerts from the "barn", etc. I think they were doing a better job or bringing Christian entertainment to the masses.
Jim was so discredited the only "recovery" they would have made would have been like Swaggarts. Just a few die hard fans who would continue to follow them even if they personally witnessed adultery with a prostitute.

CC1 not a Bakker fan nor apologist but I think the whole affair about the so-called fraud was bogus. Nearly every hotel, resort, airlines I know overbook. The folks who gave the money were NOT complaining. I personally think if Swaggart and Falwell hadn't opened all their business up for the world to see they would have recovered. The adultery would have been forgiven and PTL would have survivied. His lawyer was an old personal friend that the case was over his head he slept through a lot of it.

He may very well be sorry. I do know that since prison when I have seen him he appeared to be castrated. He is very "soft" and effeminate. It is scary. I know he remarried and everything but his demenaor is not anything like it was before.

Brother, there is a difference in being sorry and being repentant. He seems to be very repentant over the mistakes he's made in the past, which is a whole lot more than I can say for other mininsters that have fallen.

BTW - Bad news for you and a few others here Ric. Jericho has been cancelled. Now I am really glad I didn't make it one of my shows after those first three episodes.

Hmmm. Kewl. I will see what I can find out. I can not believe they would cancel it. I thought it was a pretty popular show. Rats! This is why I normally don't get all caught up in tv shows like that. Just give me a good movie or comedy special and I am happy.

Well, maybe another network will decide to pick it up and continue the storyline.

Remember the "I ran into Tammy Faye at the mall" t-shirts that were popular around the time of the scandal? It was a white shirt smeared with "make-up."

Possible but not likely. The ratings don't justify it.
I prefer series where each episode is a stand a lone story like CSI. There are continuing "back stories" involving the regular characters but each episode has a self contained major story.
These complicated series like 24, Hero's, Prison Break, etc require to you watch every episode to keep track of what is going on. Then if the series is cancelled prematurely you are left having invested a lot of time and emotion in something that will never have the loose ends tied up. At least 24 makes each season complete within itself for a major storyline. I love Hero's and Prison Break but I stopped at those and did not start watching any of the other new "serials" that came on this year. I had a feeling the public was saturated with them and sure enough all of the new ones except Heros failed.

Well, I do know that airlines overbook/oversell. The last six flights I was on they were begging passengers with free flight deals if they wait till another flight...
