As far as that teacher being laid off... I don't think we can make a definitive case that she should or shouldn't have been over any other teacher there. And you are right that tenure and experience doesn't make someone good, but it usually does mean they can do the job at an adaquate level. You see I'm not interested in what a young and motivated teacher can do as much as I am interested in what she can do after she gets burnt out a little.

the left does not get to play the hypocricy card until they deal with the fact that by law they require people to belong to unions they may not like and they require those people to give that union more than a thousand dollars a year. they have no say in who recieves political contributions from their union dollars.

AND at the same time those same liberals yell and scream about Freedom and democracy.

sorry my friend. the hypocrit doesnt get to use the "H" word.

That is just what I thought the issue was about. I don't know what Walker meant when he said, “Currently, we’ve had a long tradition when it comes to fire and police service in the state of Wisconsin. Statutes are very different when it comes to whole series of rights and responsibilities." I haven't checked into it.

My thinking is that our test scores in this country are very unfavorable in the world and I'm not particularly happy with keeping a bad teacher, who has been around forever, just because the collective bargaining makes her/him stay on.

My daughter was in Kindergarten, her teacher smoked in the bathroom during nap time, mixed up all of their paperwork giving out to the wrong students, taught how to count using the "dot method", gave me a list of words that my daughter should memorize. I asked her when they would get into phonics. "Oh, probably sometime next year." I'm not a fan of the public school system, as you can see.

Anyway, I have some things I have to take care of this afternoon, so this is my last post. Have a good day, Frog!

Then lets repeal that law! I'll support that. I think most people would. I think most of the left would.

Then let's get the government side of the collective bargaining table to push for some mechanism that allows bad teachers to be evaluated and fired. I think both sides could agree to something like that (maybe I'm too idealistic though?)

You have a good day too! I'm a fan of the public school system. There are problems though. For example while I was in high school one guy was fired for having sex with a high school senior. Another guy was moved to a middle school for the same thing (I'm assuming due to lack of proof...but it did happen). There's probably more problems with it than with the whole UPC...And from my perspective that is saying alot

Technically, the dems had 19 days to get back and do their job. Unless everyone of the 14 are completly un-informed, they knew this was an option.

Sometimes you just have to face the consequences of your choices. The dems left, they were out manuevered.

I agree in general. My point of contention is in the Republicans trying to give them two hours to return. From what I see, the Republicans had to stretch one law quite a bit in order to give them no more than 2 hours to return.
