Dispensationalist seems to always tangle themselves up with various covenant doctrines.

Look, the church is the ecclesia, the "called out." God has always had a church since Abraham and even before. The church is still marching on. God does not see the OT saints any differently than NT saints. Saints have been on the march since God called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldeans. All saints are children of Abraham, still seeking the same city that our Father began his trek to find.

Here we have no continuing city, but we seek one to come. Our father began the quest long ago. Hopefully, we will be the perfecting or crowning generation of the faithful that will arrive. For they without us cannot be made perfect.

Elder Strange I hear you but taking John.7:39 into account the Holy Ghost couldn't be given unto Jesus Christ was glorified.

Scott,

There is a big hole in your theory .... the NT is translated from the Greek .... Luke the same writer of the Gospel of Luke and Acts .... uses the same Greek phaseology to describe the filling of Elizabeth ... Zecharias ... and those in the upper room ... no difference ....

Luke 1:41 When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

Greek:

Luke 1:67

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

Not sure this is even relevant to this discussion, but my dad had a different take on the former rain and the latter rain than many. He was of the opinion that while not many, some did have the Holy Ghost in the Old Testament... it was his opinion that this was the former rain. Then at Pentecost the Latter Rain fell and has continued to produce fruit every day since.

So yes, it is clear that through John's having the Holy Ghost from his mother's womb and the scripture that declares she received the Holy Ghost, you could say that Elizabeth "received the Holy Ghost" before Pentecost.

Probable???... the scripture in Luke clearly states:
and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

BTW why didn't Mary get filled like Elizabeth as she was in the Upper Room see ACTS 1:14.
