Did you not read where Esther said prayer was made for her family on their way home? Have some of us gotten to the place where we don't believe God actually hears and answers our prayers?
If this happened to your family, Pel...or mine or any of ours on this board, you can't tell me you wouldn't be thanking God for keeping them safe! And all the while, grieving for the other family.
Isn't it ok just to rejoice with Esther that her neice and family are safe?
But originally, there was NO mention of grief for that other family, just, "Yea us, somebody else was killed." Can we really claim a miracle when an entire family was, in an instant, burned to death??? Maybe you'd like to attend their funeral and stand by several caskets and rejoice because it wasn't your family, but personally, I couldn't do it.

Romans 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
We can rejoice over the one family and weep over the other. I still would be concerned over thanking God for saving my family when another family died. You see, I can't find a way to separate the two events. The way I see it is that if God saved your family then he did so by killing another family. Is that something I really want to thank God for???

Despite what people think, there is such a thing as luck, and there is such a thing as good driving skills. Just sayin'.

I glanced at that picture for an instant and had to close the page. It's too painful to look at. Too difficult to comprehend...an entire family. Burned. I can't begin to comprehend how those close to the family must feel. I remember what AQP said about neighbors telling how it's strange to see no one going in and out of the house as normal. Silence. Silence where vibrant life once happened.

But thank God for a miracle, huh?
I've edited to add a warning about the photo.

Isn't it strange how almost everytime you are lucky that someone else by default must be unlucky? For example, in every game where your team wins with a lucky shot, another persons team is unlucky enough to lose to that shot.

Sometimes. Other times, good or bad luck directly affects only one person, such as when an illness either goes away or doesn't.
When I was in High School, I was on a Campus Life Bible quiz team, and every time there was a break in a match, both teams would huddle and pray. Fervently. Looking back, I find it utterly hilarious, in many ways. For one thing, it turned into a praying contest, as if whichever team prayed the hardest would win! Absurd.

Oh, how I remember the bible quizzing/praying days. I cannot improve on your one-word description: Absurd.

This Thread reminded me of something I pondered many years ago. I even asked others in the Church about this, without a good response.
Praying for food, or being grateful to God for a meal. Does this mean those who are starving are somehow not on God's list to be fed, being that God gave me something to eat?
