I think that you are presenting a false dilemma here.

An overcomer isn't going to maim themselves because they can't overcome sin. They will simply overcome sin.

Jesus was using a figure of speech known as hyperbole when He said that in Matthew 5 and Matthew 18.

Re: IHOP And Born Again

1 john 5:1 says, "If you believe that Jesus is the Christ --that he is God's Son and your Savior-- then you are a child of God."

So, obviously those folks at IHOP are children of God.
They're born again.

Why go on and on about some off the wall idea that water and Spirit baptism are the new birth? Just accept your brothers and sisters who have been born into the family of God. The second part of 1 John 5: 1 says that if you love the Father you love His other children --your siblings also.

People have been preaching Acts 2:38 for years.
What does Acts 2:38 say?
First: Get saved
Then:
2. Get baptized in water
and
3. Receive the promise of the Father

No Sam it does not first say get saved. It says repent. I go on about them coming into the truth of being born again because its important truth. In a day when Oneness Pentecostals are losing the light more and more and becoming followers of Protestant doctrine its good to see it work the way it should. People leaving error and gaining truth.

Re: IHOP And Born Again

This paper covers many of the internal teachings of IHOP. Its pretty extreme, especially their view of the perfection of the saints and the resurrection of the church.

Every spiritual teaching looks extreme to someone.
