Ok oil drilling poses little threat to the environment.

That is why we should drill in the arctic, drill off the coast of Florida... in fact, I bet if dug deep enough, we'd fine oil at Lake Tahoe!

Let's drill there too!

Besides, it won't be that bad if there is a spill.

We have the technology!

YES WE CAN!!!
Drilling "deep enough" won't get you to recoverable amounts of petroleum. You also have to be in the right place.

The Exxon Valdez oil spill was something like 4 times larger than this current spill in the Gulf. The immediate effects in Alaska were, of course, terrible. Two years later - everything was back to normal.

Petroleum is a natural by-product of life on this planet. The oceans have ways of healing themselves and cleaning things up naturally. Our modern oil production methods obviously stress that natural balance completely out of whack in the short term - that is why we must be careful.

Besides, the Chinese have oil leases from Cuba that are just a few miles off of Key West. We know that as this basin is developed that the Chinese will be looking out for us, right? No.

And the second largest oil spill in history was in Mexican waters. Texas and the U.S. spent 10's of millions cleaning up what washed ashore here - but the Mexican government only laughed at us when we sought compensation. That well kept gushing for over a year.

Knock the American and British oil companies all you want - but I'd much rather have them drilling in my back yard than the Chinese, Cubans or PEMEX.

We could call it "The Department of Energy" and we could put it in charge of all of the alternatives to fossil fuels like nuclear, biofuels, solar and wind energy. We could give it a huge discretionary budget. Since it would also have oversight of the development and stock piling of our nuclear weapons most of that budget would be hidden from public scrutiny.

As of right now, all I can find is a Secretary of Entergy-Steven Chu. Right?
When I heard this push for solar panels and changing out windows, by only one company...that was kinda kooky and alarming! Most Americans can NOT afford to change these things on their current homes. Solar is expensive and breaks easily....
I agree with yourwhole statement....too much info can have its disadvantages. It makes the process of simple study( all the pro's and con's of the said proposed idea/aka-bipartism) and discussions caotic. Also the whole world at large knows our every move!
We have so many ISSUES now to fix..to rebalance...God help and have mercy on the GOP elect for this country!

Prayer: Please God, keep Sarah Palin as a spokes person or maybe a cabinet member only! I thankyou in advance for a strong GOP leader ..blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God! Thankyou, in Jesus name, Amen!
Oh, and thankyou for BPM David Cameron. He seems so far like a breath of fresh air. Please keep him from the dogs of this world that would polute his heart and mind. In Jesus name,Amen.
