I don't believe alcohol or smoking will send someone to hell either, but I don't want it going on in the church fellowship hall.

Re: Square Dancing at Church??
Our previous pastor, L.H. Hardwick, would never allow any type of dancing associated with the church. I guess that policy has changed! What do they say now to couples who may want dancing at their wedding reception at the church? Only square dancing?

I never thought it was allowed there in the past. But they have moved on, so I guess things always change.

I can understand a blanket policy about not having it at the church.... Which is why couples need to NOT have their receptions at their church. Believe me, many tried to talk us into having our at theirs.

In church? Nah. I really don't care much for that even if it's the new "praise dancing" stuff.
However, at other events, such as weddings I can't imagine what could possibly be wrong with it - unless there are vulgar or immoral acts being simulated.

We seriously considered the idea of dancing at weddings, and just knew that if we allowed that - then others would want to have dancing at other events/parties. Sometimes it leads to some really vulgar stuff or music that we wouldn't want played at church. So it's just easier to stay away from all of it and have a blanket rule of no dancing on the church property.
We do have dancing in church services though - if it's for Jesus, it's ok.

Re: Square Dancing at Church??
I had a great time watching my 13 yr. old son contra dance this past summer. There was about 25 people dancing, only about 5 males, from young to old, and the rest were ladies, mostly younger. My son had a great time, and I had even more fun watching those girls swing him around from one to the next.... It was a blast... He was a little bit shy, so that made it better.
The setting was at a home school gathering on a farm out in the country. There were many activities there. The dance setting was in a very nicely built brusharbor where we had a good church service, then the church moved the hay bales (pews) out of the way, 2 lines were made, and the dancing began. One person leading/telling the others what to do next...grab yur partner...do si do kinda stuff. I videod the whole thing, my son had grinned from ear to ear thru it all, and was exhausted by the end.
I'd say out of the approximate 150-175 attendees, most if not close to all, were God fearing Christian families.
Contra dancing cant be too far from square dancing can it?

Re: Square Dancing at Church??
Thats very similar to square dancing Shag. We used to square dance at Mennonite singing hoedowns.
