Right now the dollar is worth about 12-14 pesos. A friend who is a teacher in Puebla only makes about 6000 pesos a month and lives very well. That equals out to about $525.00 a month.
20k would go a long way.

But you can't own property there. No biggie. Just sayin'
I remember when the peso was around 2500 pesos to the dollar. I was thinking... I should spend about $400 and get one million pesos and then just wait for the peso to come back.

I suppose you mean as an american you can't own prop there. I am not sure where you are getting your info but I understand it different.
An american cannot own property in the restricted zone, but elsewhere in the interior he can.
