Who in public office is going to "let it down" any more than Palin has done? She is wise to be careful. They pick that poor women apart more than a buzzard on a carcass!
I understand it, PO, but she needs to go against her instincts on this, and let it all down. It isn't wise; it plays right into her opponents' hands. By putting everything out there, she puts the ball in her own court, and to a point, disables critics. It's when she's guarded and protective that she makes the most faux pas, AND she allows critics plenty of fodder.
Furthermore, she was NOT protective when she should have been. Bristol's pregnancy shouldn't have been headline news, and she should have done the same thing Obama did and said, "My children are off limits", end of story. Instead, she lets that story fly and flourish, and yet won't answer simple questions like, "What do you read?" (Although that was on of "The Perky One's" stupidest questions, for sure. I had to laugh when Palin used that moniker for KC.)
It's like kids' bickering, saying, "You don't really know, do you?" "Yes, I do know, but I'm not going to tell YOU"--of course, that leads you to believe the person doesn't REALLY know--that they just won't answer the question. Her interchange with KC on that point was just silly. She should have said, "I read USA Today, the NY Times, the local Alaska paper, Newsweek, CBSnews.com, YOUR blog, Katie, etc--all the same things you probably read!" Then what can KC come back with?
Two things come to mind:
"Agree with your adversary quickly", - - Palin needs to learn the sandwich method.
and
"Bless them that curse you." --even in politics, "firing back", if not done perfectly and with class, will just make you look like the pot vs. the kettle. When you say nice things about your enemies, they look bad and you look good. I would have liked for Palin to be more gracious about Obama's remark about his kids--Oprah was right--he WAS referencing Palin's kids as well as his own when he made that comment ("My kids are off limits"), and she couldn't bring herself to act truly appreciative. Acknowledging it when your opponents do something right adds credibility to your opinions when they do something wrong.

I think I had different expectations. I didn't want her to go on Oprah and make "points" about all the inconsistencies and unfairness and the Big Bad Biased Media. I wanted her to go on Oprah and be nice and ingratiating and relaxed and soft and win some brownie points for just being an all around nice person (which she obviously IS).
So, I was disappointed.
Here's what I think: I think she'll be a great grass-roots advocate on important issues. I'm with you on that one. I just don't think she's going to be a major political player, e.g., "presidential candidate"--at least not ANY time soon, including 2012 and 2016.
In snippets, there was nothing wrong with some of her statements. It was my overall impression of her reactions, expressions, dodging certain questions, etc.
I didn't think she was dogging questions. I felt she was being careful in how she answered them. I especially got the impression that she was deciding how much she wanted to say and what would be the best way to say it.
When the interview was coming up, I was thinking - Okay, don't look at it like you expect the media to review it because you already know that side. Look at Sarah - listen to what Sarah is saying - listen to what Sarah is trying to convey. That is why I think she did a great job.
She let everyone know - YESTERDAY - that she is NOT afraid to tell the inconsistencies that abound in politics on both sides - Republicans and Democrats. That was the best part and we need to hear it!! She is perfect for the task! Going Rogue!
MB, I don't think she'll EVER be a great major political player. The buzz was short-lived. She can't articulate conservative ideology. She repeats phrases, but I doubt she can explain further. Her interview with Oprah was not much different than her interviews on the campaign trail -- not very helpful to her.
I'm glad she's a conservative. I'm glad she's an attractive hockey mom. But she's not a pony to ride on for the big stage.
I can honestly see the left take a page out of Limbaugh's book and have a bunch of people register and vote her in as the GOP candidate. That would be turnabout and fair play I guess.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, PO! She was an exciting addition to the McCain ticket, which up to that point had been as boring as watching slugs cross a sidewalk, but she is not a political power house, and I don't think she has her priorities in line. I liked her at first, because she's a conservative woman with little patience for corrupt politics, but the more I get to know about her personally, the less I like. Sorry.
I can't admire her answers about childcare, and you still haven't said what you think about her family arrangement. (If you did, I missed it.) I agree that from a liberal POV, that should be a non-issue, but I want to know how she excuses that from a conservative POV. Color me old-fashioned, but I would be pleased if she focused only on light weight political activism until her children are grown, and THEN stepped back into the limelight.

So what do we do with the critics against her comments in her book from the McCain side - - they were there too.
Can you rephrase the question? No Comprende!

No, I don't agree. You don't ever "let it all down". She is wise to only put out as much as she knows she should at any given time.
It's the same as this Forum, Bratti. I joke around as much as anyone, but I have a private life and I draw a line.

You weren't paying attention to the interview, I see. She said that she re-wrote the statement she wanted to make about her daughter and the McCain campaign put out that they were happy to be grandparents. She said that is NOT the message they wanted to convey to the American people.
She also said, and I heard her, during the campaign that she would have liked to have afforded the same respect regarding her children as Obama was getting with his.
Your overlooking some details here, Bratti.
She has also stated, in the past, that she was annoyed by Couric's ignorant and RUDE, CONDESCENDING question! Palin stated that Couric had an "agenda" and YES Ma'am, she sure did!!!

You know what? When I first saw the Couric interview, I thought - She is probably not going to give her that information so she won't have something else to pick apart. And, yes, she probably should have answered her, BUT if that is the major sticking point against Sarah - then it's stupid to focus on only that. She has some major accomplishments in Alaska that are being handily overlooked. She is NOT a stupid woman by any means.
