No room for a third option...just the way the framers of our democracy intended. TIC
I guess that is actually a duocracy
Several points... even though it was TIC.
The "framers" never framed a democracy. Between what the framers designed (A republic) and a democracy... a democracy is definitely the poor choice between the two.
Also... the framers would have never wanted to see the "2 sides of the same coin" politics that todays 2 party politics is. A 2 party system is the enemy of freedom.

Yeah, I wavered between saying republic and "democracy" (in quotes) in my original post.

Yes sir...
This nation is full of people who get warm fuzzies when they hear the term democracy. As a matter of fact we kill hundreds of thousands of people "spreading democracy". They need to demand a republic.

I was reading that if the states would enforce their 10th Amendment rights, that we need not be afraid of the direction the Tri-Lateral Commission has been taking the country. What are your thoughts on that? Can we turn it around?

We can... because we are the people.
But the question is... do the people have the resolve for the level of revolution required in our actions and in our thinking that it would require.
We have certainly reached this point...
Quote:
"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established, should not be changed for light and transient causes; and, accordingly, all experience [has] shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But, when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce [the people] under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security." --Thomas Jefferson: Declaration of Independence, 1776. ME 1:29, Papers 1:429

In the words of Arsenio Hall.... It's Time.
I'm thinking it's time also!! The only problem I see is that we are trying to fix things and legislate change when many of the problems seem to simply be moral issues.
There is so much dishonesty and the "weak" apology for running away and leaving a woman underwater, "I did not have sex with that woman", sorry I was caught at a party smoking a bong, Oh, I didn't tell someone I was flying to Argentina?, I did not have my legs in that wide of a stance while in the bathroom stall, etc.
Just say, I'm sorry and walk off, but don't ever change and that's supposed to appease us and make our nation strong.

So, much involved here.......
Well... for the purposes of this discussion those things are non issues to me.
The issue is this. The federal government had very specific powers that it possessed laid out in the Constitution. The Constitution went on to state that ALL powers not specifically given to the federal government were reserved for the states.
This document was not to empower the federal government. This document was to specifically limit the power of the federal government.
It is now that we are learning that all of those "kooks" that griped that the federal government was exceeding its granted power weren't such "kooks" after all. The toad has been soaking in this incrementally warming batch of milk for a while now and several are starting to notice that it is getting dangerously warm. But the problem has been coming for a while.
It is time to inform the federal government, in no uncertain terms, to get back into its cage.

And still - without God......
"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." -- John Adams -- October 11, 1798

Yep... that is what got us here... I can't argue with that.
It is time to cast off the bonds of this government... completely.
