I just don't get it at all. I don't like some things the President does, but I have respect for the office. Of course I don't call people those kind of names, with or without a microphone in my hand.
Honestly, I call people names in my head - no matter who is in office or running the church!
Seriously, tstew, from my experience those words are used toward people that seem to not want to contribute anything valuable to society.
Would you, perhaps, agree that we are really focusing on what we dislike about a person, thinking we are addressing color, but with deeper thought realizing we are actually in disagreement with their character or actions?
And, no, I'm not painting, but I am scraping two dressers - no chemicals involved. lol
No, I honestly think it's a cop out to say that one is using those types of terms but are not talking about or thinking about or referencing the race of those people. The English language is a rich language. There are plenty of terms that would sufficiently describe someone's character or actions that have absolutely no racial connotations.

This is DEAD ON! And since the MSM is in a slobbering love affair with the current POTUS, guess which sensational loudmouth they're going to bring to the public flogging?
If we're going to start discrediting movements based on their associations, let's start with some really tough ones here...
William Ayers
"Rev" Jeremiah Wright
Rashid Khalidi
No... this idiot does NOT represent the mainstream of America, nor those who believe in the principles inspiring the tea parties across America.
See that's the part that I'm starting to have trouble believing. I know a lot of those who support these Tea Party's keep claiming that, but you have people who have been in leadership roles in the Tea movement who seem to support and not condemn the racial signs and quotes that are being said.
It's not just this quack Williams. It's people like Amy Kremer, a coordinator of the Tea Party movement. She's supporting the racist sign depicting Barack Obama as an African witch doctor with a bone through his nose. The man who circulated the image has apologized but Kremer refuses too.
She said, "Robin, I couldn’t have said it better myself.
David, we all support you fully and are here for you. I can assure you of one thing and that is we will protect our own. We all have your back my friend!
Let me know what I can do to help. I am here for you if you need me David."
Maybe these are just far right people who don't represent the Tea's, but it's sorta odd that all of those in leadership and helping to coordinate the parties seem to be racially inclined.

I agree that there are plenty of other terms without racial connotations, BUT to call a lazy, stupid white person - "white trash" - is a very passionate way of saying, "You are a pretty worthless white person in society."

Whoa, I was not aware of this Mike.

Well people call us names too I am sure.
I could almost get offended.

I completely, 100% disagree. That's an excuse to use racially intolerant words that have no purpose in society today.
Just to be clear, those words should never be used, especially by Christians, to describe any person. Those words are fueled by racial intolerance and bigotry, IMO.

It's very expressive, doncha' think?
It doesn't have some of the same historical connotations as some of the other phrases, but even with that phrase, I think it would be misleading to say that it has nothing to do with the race of the person.
Now, I've never said none of those phrases weren't plenty expressive

I think that if black people want others to stop saying the "N" word, then they need to stop calling each other that. If they want it to drop from the vocabulary, then they need to be the first to step up. It does not help their cause - at all.
