Have you already done your 2006 Federal income tax return or have you waited until the last minute?

Years that I know I will owe I wait until the last minute while typically years that I know I will get a refund I file as soon as I get my W2 forms.

I foolishly waited until the last minute this year even though I was pretty sure I was going to get a refund. I had been waiting on a piece of financial information then when got it procrastinated the next two months, LOL!!!

Do you usually usually get a refund or owe money?

Until my wifes health forced her to quit working part time she used to make just enough money to put us in a situation of owing anywhere from $1000 to $1500 bucks each year it seemed. Tax time used to be depressing then!
I don't think I'll ever understand why so many people wait until the last minute to file, thereby putting themselves under all that extra stress.

I do not have to file!

Procrastination?
Avoidance?
If you ignore it, it'll go away?
Who knows!

The tax money is pretty much long gone for this year. I usually file as soon as a I can. A few years ago I waited three years to file three years at once, and got back over $10,000. It was more money than I had seen at one time ever. Talk about a redneck shopping spree!!! Heheeeeeee! Wal-Mart didn't know what hit em! LOL!

This isn't true, at least under normal circumstances. Taxes have to be filed by April 17th even if the money isn't able to be paid.

I do taxes for myself and a friend all the time. She owes money and last year I filed for an extension but didn't file the paperwork. They told me that the paperwork gets filed regardless, and the extension is for the money owed.

It's the same way this year. She owes again this year but I've already filed her paperwork. The money will be sent by October.

It was a nice chunk of change, but a lousy no-interest loan TO Uncle Sam.

We probably need to change our deductions or something so we get more per check instead of so much at the end of the year...

Some people don't even get all the information they need to file until late. I know I don't receive much of the information I need until late march and early april sometimes

Cool

My husband put it off since he thought we owed. He finally did it 2 weeks ago and made a big production out of the fact that I had to sign. I signed both the federal and state forms and put them on his desk. drumroll.......both were returned due to missing a signature....his!!!!!

So the refund will be a bit late. We get a small token of the governments appreciation of using our money all year. Both checks will be direct deposited to my account since I claim zero, ( to avoid paying later), and therefore have the greater deductions. I'll apply it to my car lic tags....I have a 2002 Sable, and it's now down to $193; which is obviously outrageous.
