The term "Gypsie" comes from the belief that the Romani originated in Egypt. The French were under the mistaken assumption that they came from Bohemia (modern Czech Republic) and so the term "bohemian" has been erroneously used for centuries.

I'm sorry for your unfortunate experiences, but was it actually occasioned by an ethnic Romani, or just some random swindler?
I always associated them with balkan or slavic origins.

The best linguistic studies show them to have actually originated in Persia and/or northern India thousands of years ago. Of course along the way they no doubt gyp'd and were gyp'd into mingling their DNA with those whose lands they passed through.

Go far enough back and you'll find we're all related to the noble Gypsy.

I understand. When we discuss ethic and cultural roots, when a sermon like you preech gets ignored, you can alwys call people out as racist.

On the farm, we were missing chickens and other small farm livestock when they camped down the road. Now most do Not travel.

It is sad when "cultural marxism" gets people all hysterical about a topic. (political correctness)
