Re: Forced Worship
Here's another funny note. When the Spirit of God is moving, the worship leader thinks it's time for another song, the prayer leader thinks it's time to pray, and the pastor thinks it's time to preach!
That's why someone has to make the call.....or maybe none of the above is supposed to happen! I say let God be God!

Re: Forced Worship
The young people are going to run the aisles..... now the married folk.... okay, now the elders........
It goes beyond "encouragement" when you feel like you do not have a choice...

Re: Forced Worship
If people would come to church already prayed up and with their minds on God instead of heaven knows what - then worship would just happen.

That's right!

If you don't want to worship God, despite that being what you were created to do..despite the fact you are supposed to be a worshipper, then don't. But there are some folks that just won't worship or need a little nudge to continue worshipping. If that is what it takes to get the glory of God, then fine! I'd rather have someone motivate me to worship than not have the glory or moving of His Spirit in our service.
Now...on the other hand if the Pastor or whoever expects me to run or jump or dance as the ONLY way to praise or worship God then yes I have an issue with that. In other words if I am worshipping and you don't like the fact that I only raised my hands and verbally give God glory....then tuff :-)

I haven't read the entire thread yet--only read to this post.
If more people spent a little time in the prayer rooms before service- there wouldn't be any coaxing or nudging needed for them to worship. They would have already gotten to the point where it was easier for to worship because of the time spent in prayer prior to the service.

Re: Forced Worship
I was in a service once where the pastor stopped the service and verbally reprimanded the entire church for not being 'worshipy' enough as they filed down the aisles to give their offering. He said they should be singing, and dancing, and acting 'happy' when they gave their offering. He even went so far as to say he was embarrassed by the lack of 'worship' in the giving of the offering. Of course he got what he wanted from most folks. But I had to wonder, isn't the act of giving itself worship? Isn't my joining in faith with my fellow brothers and sisters worship? I decided it was and left the service immediately. It was my last service at that church after attending there for almost eight years.

Now that I've finished reading the thread, I guess that makes what I posted a repost, huh?

Re: Forced Worship
I think the problem in some churches is that they get stuck in a rut of playing the same 15 to 25 worship chrouses to the where the services become predictable and they die a slow and painful death and that's when the worship becomes forced.

I have been in services where my worship wasn't enough if that is what you mean???
I was at a conference where I WAS worshipping and praising and the one leading kept telling me/us to give more and do more.
"Come on, come on you can do better than that" I was told over and over again as if the noise level wasnt loud enough.
It was like we were forced to scream!
It did nothing for the service at all, it fell flat and just seemed like a bunch of noise.

Re: Forced Worship
I was in a service where the pastor got frustrated because folks weren't worshiping enough and he told his wife to come from behind the piano and he took her hand and said they were going home.
And he walked out.
Of course the same preacher was not pleased with the fervency of the prayer at a mens prayer meeting and he threw chairs too ... so... To each their own I suppose.
