Re: Obama's Youth!
Maybe since since "Obama", and "Dali Llama" rhyme I could attribute some sort of religious value to this....
NOT!

One does not have to be or have a religion in name to be religious. Anyone or anything can be worshipped.

The only part that troubled me was the "Alpha, Omega" chant. I don't see anything wrong with young males having a candidate for the presidency for a role model and wanting to become successful.

I know, I know. I don't think the context of that video is religious.
These guys are "steppin". When I was in HS, I was part of a step team too, though my membership was short lived due to my lack of rhythm. College Fraternities and Sororities also do this kind of stuff to build camaraderie, foster teamwork and pride.
These are good things to instill in people.
I don't think they are engaging in any kind of worship.
I don't think people realize just how big a deal Sen. Obama's candidacy is for so many people, not just young Black males.

Re: Obama's Youth!
I know what steppin is....that is not the issue. It's what they are saying.

The issue is not steppin, it's not doing something in rythem, it's not camaraderie, team work or pride...in fact what is said here is not about self pride but pride in Obama.
Did you watch the whole thing and listen to the words?

yes I did, a couple of times. I will listen again.
I noticed that the headline described the youth as "militant"-- very poor and deceptive journalism.

There's an update regarding the video with the African American teens shown on YouTube in the video below. This morning, I received a message from a friend named Dan who gave me the address of the school where this video was filmed. This is the name:
URBAN COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
1524 PASEO BLVD
18th & Vine District, Kansas City, MO
Educational Organization
I called and spoke to Bernard, who said he was the assistant Dean. He was very gentlemanly and when I voiced my concerns about the video, he told me that this was taken at the school last year when Obama was beginning his campaign. He assured me that they stopped this "regiment" because they felt the person who was organizing it was pushing his political agenda.
Duh.
He assured me that he didn't know it was on YouTube. I gave him the link to where to go for this video and when he found it he said, "Oh this is not good. I had no idea" I told him I'd take his word for it. He then asked me, nicely, "what's the main concern? Because I want to understand where you're coming from so that I can figure out how to handle this."
Nicely, I told him that the video looked militant. I told him about the Colburn School video and how it resembles propaganda films from Communist dictatorships. I told him that the US military is frowned upon for going to high schools trying to recruit potential grads into joining their ranks. Why shouldn't we frown upon those who come to a school like yours to encourage kids to worship a politician? One who is not even a president.
I also said that if this was done to make kids feel better about themselves, why do it in the name of Obama? Why not encourage kids to believe in the power of themselves?
He assured me that he would get to the bottom of the situation, thanked me for my call and we hung up.

See, it's no big deal. They are aware of the situation and have done their best to relieve any concerns. Hardly a Hitler Youth program.
Another neocon overreaction to an exaggeration.

How about Reagan....In 1984, Reagan in a huge landslide, getting 59% of the vote, and winning 49 out of 50 states, something we know Obama will not do. Did you see any pro-Reagan youth groups singing songs praising him?
There have been popular presidential candidates before , who won in a much bigger landslide than Obama would if he wins in November. But the larger point, which you seem to be missing or overlooking, is not who's popular by how many points... it is the fact that man has been made into a "political savior" more than any presidential candidate in recent memory. And people ascribe to him abilities and expectations far beyond anything indicated by his political experience. Some of his own supporters have repeatedly said, he's not just a man, but he's "a movement"... or at least someone on the leading edge of a movement. To me this is all ridiculous, and shows the gullibility of up to 1/2 the electorate.
When it gets to the point people are having youth groups singing about this man's "promise" and ability to change America and the world, then that's a bit much for me. Anyway, I'm convinced that the American sheeple are deceived, aided by a compliant media. This man should be nowhere near beign this close to being president. But people are more moved by soaring rhetoric and oratory than true substance.
|
Bro....it's about backlash. Bush and the Republican policies are largely suspect by a lot of people...even many Republicans. Obama isn't being made into a savior...he's just pretty popular among the opposition.
Jeesh.

First of all I am not a neocon and I would appreciate you keep your insults to yourself. You don't have a clue about me or others here. They could have been conservatives as well and it would disturb me.
Second I did not say it was a hitler youth PROGRAM, however if you did read this they were encouraged to do this by someone else. That someone else had the agenda, not the kids. But it IS the kids that are the easiest to influence and that is what bothers me about this.
It's a big deal that it happened and that an adult influenced these kids.
