Is Holiness More Than A Departure From Sin?

Well Bro.Ferd,I do agree if we have faith,then we will have works,and our works reflect holiness,because faith without works is dead.Certainly God does require us to be responsible in our walk with Him.

While we are not under the ceremonial aspects of the law,we are under the moral aspect.
Because God is holy,then His children are to live a lifestyle of respect to the principles of God.

As soon as I think of Holiness, I begin to wonder how much is enough. My best efforts will fail. Christ is Holy. We can strive do be like that but I'll fail. I ask Christ for forgiveness everday, because no matter how good or bad I did, I fail in some way(s) everyday. I came from a church many years ago that was very legalistic. Standards were given. Sins were to be confessed to the pastor. Sometimes for restoration. I've carried this weight for many years. After a while I just felt damned. I don't know if any of you have experienced anything like this before.

You were in an environment where everyone was made to be sin-conscious, rather than Son-conscious. Unfortunately too many people have been exposed to that.

Jesus died for our sins, but He also died for every mistake we would make in the future after we are saved. And we are complete in Him, therefore.

We can overcome sin, but not in environments such as what you were in. We need teaching that shows how to walk after the Spirit. Human will power to do better is wrong and never works. And that is all we hear in the places like you were in. Paul said we can walk after the Spirit and learn to lean on the Spirit to be strengthened to resist sin, and we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. There's a lot to that teaching, but you'll never hear any of it in a sin-conscious environment.

Yes, holiness is also a drawing to God.

Man was created in true holiness.

But man sinned and because of God's holiness and justice, it required a withdrawl of God from man.

Now God in the OT created means of atonement between God and man to be done regularly, but this was only a temporary measure until the Lamb of God would come to make the supreme sacrifice once and for all.

Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

2Co 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
