Re: New Resolution: All local ministers right to v

Here ya go Dan.

Whereas there is a need to involve every credentialed in the business activities of the United Pentecostal Church International, and

Whereas the right to vote brings a sense to ownership, and

Whereas every accredited minister in good standing should be granted a voice and vote in such matters as the increase of budget fees and the election of national officers that will serve them,

Be it therefore resolved that article IV, section 4 of the General Constitution of the United Pentecostal Church International as contained on page 42 of the Manual of the United Pentecostal Church International, 2008 Edition, be amended to read as follows:

SECTION 4. Voting Constituency.

1. Those who shall be entitled to vote for the election of officers, or upon any proposal, resolution, or any other business that properly comes before the General Conference, shall be accredited ministers in good standing.

(a) All accredited ministers who vote must be in actual attendance at the General Conference with the following exceptions:
(1) The Foriegn Mission Division shall prepare and send to each authorized missionary on the foriegn field a ballot for the missionary to list his or her preference for each office to be filled at the General Conference.
(2) Said ballot is to be enclosed in a sealed envelope and mailed to the Tabulating Committee of the General Conference in care of the General Secretary.
(3) Said ballot is to be opened only by the Tabulating Committee, and the names submitted are to be used in the election of each officer as long as that name is before the conference.

(b) Any and all accredited national ministers under the auspices of the Foriegn Missions Division shall be welcome to be a part of our General Conference and shall be granted the same privilages as all accredited ministers with the exception of voting.

I hope that it does pass. If I'm paying almost 600.00 a year between national and local dues, I should get the benefit of voting and making a difference.

Question, and I'm not trying to hijack this thread:
Do your dues come out of your tithes
or
are dues in addition to tithes and offerings?

Re: New Resolution: All local ministers right to v

I am not licensed/ordained by the UPC and do not attend a UPC church so this will not affect me, but I'm curious. What are the resolutions that will be voted on this year? How many are there?

This seems to be only for votes at General Conference not in local district and sectional conferences ....

Am I missing something? If it's just in national elections and business it seems fair ...

I would disagree with the clause that does not allow for absentee voting ...

I cannot discuss this because I am one of the chosen few selected to be a voting member, and you are not.

Re: New Resolution: All local ministers right to v

For someone who is fearful of the new batch of young ministers and their thinking ... if CW wrote this resolution and it passes ... it could backfire ...

It would empower the entire constituency when voting on future national resolutions... and probably this entails mainly younger ministers who want to see a progressive agenda ...

Be careful what you ask for ....

Dan,
I understand that it would allow everyone to vote at every level.....but looking at that wording, you might be right....

i might bring this up elsewhere and get some clarification

It has little to do with young ministers versus old ministers.
The change is in giving part-time and no-time ministers an equal voice with those in full-time ministry. Full-time ministry has more vested in the org., and is more greatly affected by decisions made on a national level than the others. A Pastors vote respresents a whole congregation, whereas the local licensed minister that only preaches on occassion only represents himself.
This will probably pass, and will do more to disintegrate the cohesion of the UPCI than just about any other resolution.

If you must read between the lines,
do so in a
Straightline

Clearly this resolution speaks of national elections and the General Conference process ...

Unless a district uses GC rules for their own election rules ... I don't think this is the case ....
