We've had a Republican president for 8 years.
Hollywood, the other media, the unions, the feminists, the GLBT, the abortionists, the greenies, and other such have been badmouthing him for all 8 years and calling for "change." Because he is President he is personally blamed for anything that is perceived as being wrong with the economy, housing market, stock market, schools, etc. I think folks will react by voting out the party of the current President and voting in the other major party to give them a chance to correct things.
