Re: Russ Taff and Mickey Mangun Concert
He is still what you would call Pastor Emeritus or Sr Pastor kind of LOL... his health is so bad that he does not take the pastoring role too often but when he does decide to preach he definitely still has it!
Russ I believe is still a part of what used to be known as the Church on the Rock... they are now called something else.. but he was really tight in with those pastors and I talked to one of my ex boyfriends from way back whos father pastored one of the largest church on the rock churches and he said that Russ was still working with them altho I cannot for the life of me remember what they call those churches now.
As for Russ' attitude. He has changed a lot!!! Back in the day when I was out of church and just getting out of high school. I stayed with my bf's family for about 3 months and Russ stayed at their home for about the same amount of time as he and Tori (his wife) were touring at the time on a major tour and they would come there as a home base when not on the road and we had some major run ins our personalities clashed like tnt and a flame thrower!!!! He was a very rude person but God has definitely changed him. And I even at one time got a call from him with an apology telling me that he knew he should have been an example to me at that point in my life and was worse than a turn off to God for anyone... I think he realized he made his rear shown to many people during those given years in his life.. he is indeed a different person now.
I do wish I could have made it to the concert but felt spending time with my family was much more benificial this weekend considering my upcoming surgery

I also saw him at Dottie Rambo's funeral.
I am almost positive he is NOT a Christ Church member though. I have seen him about three times in nine years.
I have never been a fan either. I have a niece who thinks he is the best singer in the world but I disliked his singing from the beggining. The Imperials were my favorite Gospel group growing up and when I finally got to go see them in person around the late 70's it was right after he had joined the group and I hated his "sound". He sounded like he was singing with cotton balls in his mouth.
Later in the late 80's or early 90's when his career was in decline he came to my church in Austin and was such a prima dona I heard the pastor said he would never have him back. However to his credit I heard that later he confessed he had been a jerk around that time in his life and asked for forgiveness.
Even now he irritates me. When he "testified" at our music conference it was all whining about how he had an abused upbringing from his Pentecostal dad, yada, yada, yada. Very much the victim mentality.
Just my opinion and luckily for him many people disagree and seem to enjoy his singing and whining.....er... testifying.
BTW - Who is pastoring John Kershaw's church now? Is JK Pastor Emeritus or gone?

Re: Jonathon Moore, Mickey Mangun & Russ Taff
Mark... yes I saw this and ??????????????????????????? I dont see a thing wrong with it. I am glad that Mickey and Jonathan are in worship with Russ. Doesnt surprise me one bit
One thing about Christian world is they have always went against the grain and its not always been a bad thing. I remember us having Jessie Dixon back in the 80s and the old group Truth and many other concerts... actually we had the McGruders one night and the next we had Jessie... Never a reason we shouldnt have the ability to have other groups in the church to minister in music.... its not like they are preaching or anything!

The comment as I heard it was that he was doing it on his own. He was so nice to me and asked me about Clearwater, Florida. He was there to share in a Christmas concert with The POC choir led by Sis. Kim Ballestero. It was an awesome night. Two really blessed and anointed musicians and singers.

He is doing it on his own. He has a really nice website that he is using to build his church. It is northrocksa.com. It is an area that is growing very fast north of San Antonio.

From what I saw and heard from Russ Taff last night, I would say he has probably been through some refining fire. As far as membership at CC, I just threw that out there to see what the response would be, you know all those gospel singers go to CC in Nashville, don't they.

I didn't know she was exactly my age...so she was just a youngun' back then but her voice today is just as strong, and her singing just as anointed.
For those in the are...Russ Taff will be at Christian World Church in Richardson tomorrow at 10 a.m. It would be worth the trip.

I remember going to a russ taff concert years ago. He got to this one part and started talking about Pentecostal roots and the song sounded very pentecostal and he started dancing around like it was a pentecostal service and the crowd went nuts

Re: Jonathon Moore, Mickey Mangun & Russ Taff
I used to preach at the church where Russ grew up. I never met his Dad, but his uncles and aunts are super people. The church is oneness, so that is Russells roots. His cousin got him started singing with a group he had before he went to the Imperials. Russell can really sing. When he went to the imperials he changed style--and that is what some people do not like. I met him back in the early Imperials days and he was very kind and friendly. He was always a little odd or eccentric, but his family said after you knew him he was great.
One of my good friends is tour manager for the Oak Ridge Boys and has his pulse on the SG world. Russ's wife emailed him the night that Anthoney Burger died at the piano and he quickly forwarded me the email. Look for good things to come from Russ in the near future.
He lives in Nashville, or maybe it is Hendersonville. I am not sure where he goes to church but it is not CC.
As a side note, he was vacationing in SC at the beach and his daughter was bitten by a shark. She required 18 stitches on her ankle. She is fine. Russ was reading on the beach and Toni was in the condo at the time.
