Re: LapTop Suggestions?
Maybe they can sell you the laptop/PC with no operating system for less and you can go buy XP. However if the laptop you are getting is made for media like OS's then you might want to get XP media center or just go with Vista

Re: LapTop Suggestions?
I LOVE my MAC. I bought the MS Office 2004 and it is compatible. I think probably for the price DELL may be your best bet.
RE: DOS. Don't let them get to you Sis. Esther. I REMEMBER DOS and 5 1/4 floppy disks AND my FIRST computer was programmed with a CASSETTE RECORDER! LOL WAAAYYY before Commadore 64 from Radio Shack!
RE: VISTA. Clone of the MAC Operating System. I don't have a lot of trouble navigating with it, but, it "glitches" a little too much for my taste. Still would rather use my MAC!
Hope this helps. Only my opinion!

Re: LapTop Suggestions?
Prax,
Thanks for all of your posts. I'm looking at purchasing a lap top, so all of these things help. Going with the HP, although my desktop is a Dell.

OOPS! Thanks for the correction! That's be a WHILE AGO, huh? LOL I do remember the TRS-80's! In fact, where I worked (adult ed. tech school) my old computer ran at 25 mgz! LOL I would go to the office and turn on the computer; make a cup of coffee, drink it, get another and THEN the computer would have opened....in DOS Screen! Those were the days!
I could even get into Windows 3.1 "through the back door" using DOS! How good was I? LOL
Hey, when I was starting the Pharmacy Tech Program at the school where I taught, I got an UPGRADE to guess what? 8 RAM and 100 mgz speed WITH a CD drive. Man, was I uptown or what?
I also remember HAND TYPING onto the cassette player a program for a game. Game required too much memory and I discovered that too late; in other words after I had typed for 1 hour (not kidding) line by line and the computer shuts down!!! I never DID get that game into my computer! SHOOT! LOL

Re: LapTop Suggestions?
Honestly, when it comes to PCs and Laptops I compare stats like CPU (Intell core duo better than AMD, but AMD cheaper), how much ram and HD space it comes with, how big the screen is and other things like that. If I am into a LT and I want good graphics I look at the graphic chip and I avoid Intell and go with nvidia or ati.
Then I compare price. At fries they gave me a service contract for 50 dollars which is good. The main differences then between PC manufacturers is service not hardware.
Even Apples are becoming more and more like PCs since they are Intel based now.

Re: LapTop Suggestions?
I really need a new Dell desktop. Pray that the Lord will speak to my husband about this, so I can send my old one to my brother in Alaska for his church. Only $500 at Wal-Mart and my husband paid more than that for his new fancy recliner.
I really like Dell Esther, especially after having Gateway as my first PC.
