Re: Christ Church Pastor Change

This morning at Christ Church Nashville (I was at the early service and the same will be announced at the 2nd service) Pator Hardwick announced that after 57 years as the Sr. Pastor of Christ Church he will become Pastor Emeritis and that Dan Scott has been presented to the board and the board ratified him to be the nominee for Sr. Pastor.

Church members will vote a yes or no vote on Dan Scott as Sr. Pastor on the evening of June 29.

Pastor Hardwick will still be the head of the church board, will be at church when in town, and will preach occasionally.

Dan Scott will take over the day to day business of pastoring and running the church.

Pastor Hardwick laughed and said he would be around to step in if anything goes wrong (paraphrased - I don't remember exactly how he said it)

He likened the transition as to the Children of Israel first being led by the cloud and then by the Ark. He said he was sure Dan would do some things differently from him and people shouldn't' say "That's not the way Pastor Hardwick did it!".

Do you think there will be any issues with voting him in?

I have heard of this church, but know very little about it. From my understanding, it use to be a conservative oneness church that quite some time ago got out of its organization. How often is someone baptized in your church? Also how often does someone receive the Holy Ghost?

No real problem exists over the use of "The Name" in everthing else done in the Church. Why then should there exist great controversy over the use of the "The Name of the Godhead" in water baptism?

It was a UPC church for many years but NEVER conservative. The pastor has always held what we refer to as the "PCI" or "1 step" view of salvation. I believe it left the UPC around 1986.

The church only baptizes in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ but believes baptism is a sacrament, not essential for salvation.

Here is a link to the church website where there is an area that has more bout what CC believes. Click on "About" on the banner at the top and then from there on the left you choose "What We Believe". It is a brief summary of a booklet CC publishes of it's statement of faith.

The pastor appears to be around 50 and although I have only heard him speak once it was very good. A second time I was there a guest missionary was also excellent. I can't remember his name but he works with missions in Boliva. He speaks five languages and later that Sunday was doing an Arabic service in Nashville.

They baptized 12 o 13 people (incorrectly) a few Sunday's ago. You ought to get your son to check it out one Sunday morning. Service is at 10am and that wouldn't interfere with his night service at WOC.
Well, I'm not sure how Allen baptizes at WOC either. Do you know? Zac is pretty sure about why we baptize the way we do, so I'm not real worried about him being "swayed".

Can you PM me directions to Bethel in M'boro? I have no idea where it's at. Zac got used to sleeping in on Sun. mornings and just going to night church; it might be hard to get him to beak that habit. LOL! At least this year, he will have two Godly roommates who will go to church with him so he won't have to go all alone.

Sherri

I went and looked at your church web page the other day. Today, I also looked at Christ Church web page. The "What we believe" pages seemed to be very similar. Does your church have a strong connection with CC in Nashville?

Yes, Bro. Hardwick has been a mentor to Eddie for many years. However, if you visited their church and our church, you would not think they were much alike. CC is a great church, but it's a little more subdued than what we are used to. I have utmost respect for Bro. Hardwick and Carole, and also for the late Montelle (who I dearly loved!).

I think the only difference we made in our statement of faith is that we put in that we believed tongues are the initial evidence of receiving the Holy Ghost, but that was several years ago, so CC could have changed theirs since then.
