I was at ABI from 1984-87. The debates took place about '85. The church and the school split starting in '86 with the school buying out the church around 1990. Bro. Sabin withdrew from the UPC a couple years later, then denounced most standards and from what I heard the necessity of speaking tongues when you receive the HG.

You have to appreciate the scholarship that has been done by the Protestants and Catholics. Much of this has come through debate.

There is an appropriate time for "discussion" so that the truth can be documented and carried forward. The truth will always last and isn't afraid of open honest debate.

Actually, I think these debates are really more like 1987 or so. They were new at that GC when we went and my daughter was a year or so old. So, that would make it around 1988 or 89, the AF Stat was in 92 if I remember correctly.

There's a difference between debate and dialog. I think the new Bernard debates were very civil and more dialog than debate. I was impressed with the civility of these men.

I tend to believe this because if you notice in the debate he didn't have much to say about speaking in tongues and baptism. Most of his points had to do with his view of the Godhead.

Even when he ask Dr. Martin if he accepted him and he listed all the things he has done to be saved he didn't mention tongues or baptism.

Is there any documentation to support this? Maybe someone should contact Bro. Sabin and get the real story from him.

I read a newspaper ad from Sabin's church a few years ago that said "WE APOLOGIZE". He was celebrating his belief that the other denominations are not lost and invited all to come to his church for the celebration.

Except then I would have to admit that I actually believed that in the past and that aint' happening.
