or they are just not plain encouraging their young men to get license....

I used to think that there are some pastors who may not recognize a person's calling to the ministry.... but a man's gift maketh room for itself.... sometimes a person just has to carve out their own place in the kingdom of God.... teaching at a prison/nursing home, teaching Bible studies, helping with the youth group or Sunday school, creating a study group, etc....

see my sig line....

they might even show up for all three church services, pay their tithes/ offerings and occasionally help with some ministry in the church....

ministry can lead to a sacrifice that many are not willing to pay...

Sadly this is true.

The median age is 43. That is my age (though I am not licensed) and I wonder why that is?

Isn't God calling anymore?

Included in our message is yesterday was this, the nmost important thing one can do in the kingdom is to serve.

Have we lost are ability to serve?
Maybe most don't get licensed until they are older - after they have gone through all their schooling - and for some it may take longer to figure out what their calling is. My husband is 25 and is just now getting into the ministry - he will not get licensed anytime soon either. That will be down the road once he knows for sure what God has for him down the road.

The dues alone are enough to hinders someone from joining in my opinion!!

I have a friend nearby who has 16 ministers (most are in thier teens and 20's) in his church and only 4 of them are licensed. He simply sees no need to be paying the dues of 12 extra men.

Another has 4 in his church and 2 are licensed.

There are a couple of reasons why this is happening, one is that only certain men can vote, and so young preachers, and thier Pastors see no reason to license men who cant vote anyway.
Dues are going up, ( 100.00 a month in Western District, plus national dues)
and why pay that when you can preach without it.
And with the instability and contreversies that are going on in the UPC right now, many feel that getting a license right now with the possibilty of leaving later would be dumb.
I agree!!

That may be true - my former pastor was always leary of encouraging people to get licensed but my current pastor encourages it greatly!!

Sometimes I wonder how certain people get licensed!!! LoL!!
