That's not point. It's just a statement of fact that does not prove you're point or assertion as I said earlier...and my last post you did not address. You posted stuff that had nothing to do with what I posted.
Quote:
Paul instructed the church and said not to forbid to speak in tongues but that it is one of the lesser gifts and rather covet to prophesy.
|
Please post the verse where Paul said "that is one of the lesser gifts". Nor does this prove your assertion
Quote:
Paul also instructed not to all speak in tongues in church or else someone is going to come into your church and think that you are crazy.
|
Isn't it kinda odd that Paul would ask if all speak with tongues then say he would that they ALL spoke with tongues?
Again, quoting the instruction on the use of the gift of tongues in a service does not prove your original assertion. Second we can discuss whether there is an obvious difference between tongues for church service and tongues that occured in an evangelistic/soul winning setting where someone comes to christ for the first time...would you like to?
Quote:
But Paul said you should prophesy and reveal the secrets of his heart and then surely they will fall down and their face and know that God is in you!
|
But how does that prove the intention of this thread? Your original point?

- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Sorry, I was in a bad mood when I wrote that or maybe my frustation had hit its max.
Some things that I think are clear as a bright sun shining day are dark and undiscernable to others, like speaking in unknown tongues as being the evidence of receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I was remembering a discussion below in which I've posted the links back in the early days of AFF when Theophilus wrote a few words on the need for some folks to want to see a complete redundancy in the scriptures otherwise they will not be content with something being called doctrine.
IOW some people will not be content to believe tongues are the witness that one has received the baptism of the Holy Spirit unless every where in scriptures in which it is recorded that someone is filled with the Holy Spirit that it is also recorded that that person/s spoke with other tongues as well.

There are 3 places in the book of Acts which connect tongues with the baptism of the Holy Ghost? How many times do you want it to be listed before you will believe it?
|
I'm curious how many times in the Bible does it have to record someone spoke in tongues when they received the Holy Spirit for someone to believe this is what happens everytime someone receives the Holy Spirit? Is three instances of this not enough?
Here are the posts for you to read. God bless.

There are many actions of the Holy Spirit upon, within, and through folks since the new dispensation began (testator died). These works would be the Spirit drawing, opening up hearts, regenerating, baptizing (placing/plunging/immersing) into the body of Christ etc. Subsequent to salvation/regeneration, the Spirit leads, empowers, releases gifts etc. One of the manifestations of the Spirit's operation is speaking with tongues but this gift/manifestation has nothing to do with salvation/regeneration (it is post-salvation experience).

I agree is it a post-salvation experience Sam, thank you.

1 Cor. Chapter 14:
5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
Tongues edifies only yourself...it's greater to edify the church body.

WBF why didn't you answer Praxeas? Your above statement didn't refute anything that Prax was trying to inquire of you, so how about answering the chap?
WBF, do you speak in tongues?

I see a pattern here...I have to ask again...how does that address what I said? You seem to be ignoring what people say and then just posting some random thought that we have no idea what your point is supposed to be....
