It so happens that I do believe in God. Why would you think otherwise? But I agree that stories of miracles are not good support for belief. That's kinda my point, in fact. And if that's true, what is the point of these miraculous murders, if not to alert people to the danger of not believing?
If I'm not mistaken, the point of these stories (the ones on this thread, not all miracle stories) is that God will (or might) kill you if you mock Him or disrespect Him or disbelieve the people who claim to speak for Him. In other words, contrary to LadyChocolate's post, God is "out to get you". Toe the line, or else.
Just noticed you said "believe God", not "believe in God", sorry. Same answer, though. I believe everything God has ever said!

Hebrews 13:23 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty
Yes, I saw the USA Today article after it was told me. I found someone who kept some back copies of it. We went back through the stack that was a couple of weeks old. I asked the person, (a neighbor) if I could keep the paper which he granted me permission to keep. Unfortunately, I did not keep it.
The story of the deaths (not murder, mind you) of the prisoners was told by the man of God himself, and also verified to me in private by one of the prisoners that was "saved" and later released.
But, what is the point? You can either accept this as possible, or just reject it out of hand. There is no need to worry your mind over it. It you have trouble with this incident, you would have a great deal of trouble with many other incidents of modern times.
It seems that a lot of folks are not bothered about whether a story like this one is actually true or not. (And yes, my belief is that this particular story is not true in all of its details. Most likely, it has been embellished a lot, and grew with the retellings. Not accusing you of anything, but the "man of God" has most likely done the embellishments. That's usually how it goes.)
As to whether this was murder, are you not implying that God indeed killed that mocker? Where did the lightning come from? The man of God himself? If so, it was a murder committed by that man of God. If it was from God, then God was the murderer. Was it a natural event (genuine lightning)? You went to some trouble to rule that out! ("However, there was not a cloud in the sky at the time.") So clearly, you think someone (whether God or that man) decided to end the mocker's life, obviously because of the mocking that he did. You don't call that murder?
I could go into the reasons I have my doubts about this story, if you like. But you probably shouldn't worry your mind over them!

Timmy...
It seems that you are having a major problem.
Murder??? God does not murder! Neither would a natural bolt of lightening be MURDER. Good grief. Don't you know what murder is? God is not a murderer. The devil is a murderer.
The definition of MURDER for all who does not understand it is, the UNLAWFUL taking of human life.
A man of God was falsely accused for a crime that he did not do. After spending two years in Prison at a Federal Prison near Texarkana, he was exonorated and set free.
While he was in the prison, he prayed all the time. The supervisor saw the man's sincerity as he walked around with uplifted hands praying and ministering to other prisoners, many of whom he led to the Lord. Finally, the warden or the supervision gave him an area all of his own where he can pray. It was a big oak tree near the corner of the yard far away from the other population. He walked around that tree praying until he wore a rut in the ground.
There was a big man in the prison that had harrassed him almost from the beginning. One day this man walked out there where this man of God was praying to speak to him. He said to him, "Here is what I think of your Jesus," as he drew a cross in the dirt near the rut with his shoe. He then cursed Jesus and spat on the cross that he drew in the ground.
The man of God said to him, "Sir, I wish you would not do that. God has your very life in his hands and you may see the judgements of God very quickly." The man then cursed him again and spat on the cross again. Again the man of God told him that he is in severe and immediate danger.
Just then, the man of God told me that lightening began shooting through his body that jumped out of him and hit the man in the head. The lightening split the man in two from the crown of his hiead right down the middle even dividing his private parts in two. The man was slaughtered and butchered right there before him. When this happened, there were some men standing near and they were hit with the same lightening and fell dead too.
This was seen and recorded on Prison security cameras. Needless to say, the respect for this man of God soared among the prison population. Now for the rest of the story. The brother kept the tree for himself, praying and praising God with uplifted arms walking around the tree. Finally, prisoners began getting permission to walk out to the tree to get "saved." They were granted permission by the prison staff to go see the man of God, one by one. Many came.
One day, word was sent to the man of God that the Warden needed to see him. The man of God left the tree to see the him. He was then informed that he was being released and that he could go home. The man of God asked if he could be dismissed to go back to the tree once more. He was granted that permission. He went back to the tree, took off his shoes and tied them by the laces upon a limb. He later walked out of the prison barefooted.
After the man of God left the prison, many of the prisoners who had gotten saved got permission to visit the tree. The picture of what happened next appeared in the USA Today. Prisoners took off theri shoes and humg them alll over the big oak tree. The tree with all of those shoes tied up all over the tree was a sight to behold. The pictured that appeared in the USA Today captioned the tree as "The Praying Tree." A little of the story was told in the paper.
The Praying Tree. Dear God! We need a lot of praying trees. Alas, I doubt that we will see many of them anymore.
"It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of an angry God."
"Fear him not who can destroy the body and can do no more. Yea, fear God who can fear destroy both body and soul in hell."
The story that I told you is true. I am well aware of it.
Reminds me of a pulpit that was slipt into.

One of these days I am going to get over there and look at that pulpit. RH said they put it aside where anyone can see it if they want to.
I've often wondered about that. I bet it was God's warning, "Repent or this day the kingdom is torn from you." The lightening strike and the bursting asunder of the pulpit was a sign.
I'm just glad that TT and RH got out of there alive.
But don't tell Timmy. He might want to investigate.
If someone mocked me and I killed him, would that be murder? Of course! But God can do this, just because He's God, is that it? Is there anything that's not "lawful" for him to do?
The devil? Whom has the devil murdered? God, according to the Bible, has killed (whether you want to call it murder or not, that's up to you) millions of people. All the firstborn of Egypt, e.g. Uzzah, for steadying the ark, e.g. And He ordered his armies to slaughter entire cities, including children and babies.
You don't have a problem with any of that? And I have a serious problem?

God can do anything He wants too. He is the boss.

If this really happened it would have been in every news paper and on every TV station in the country.
You have more confidence in the media that I do.
