I think a lot of people do that anyway. Including some Christians, that add to or take away from the Word. In that God didn't say it or command it, but I did. There does seem to be a some that say, I will do it my way, and you follow me.

Also, why would I want to bring something that has clear pagan origins, and is pagan in practice, slap a 'Christian' label on it, and then proclaim I am still holy? This is ludacris!
I do not need to go bankrupt. I do not need to practice paganism. And, I do not need to know the ways of the heathen. Some of y'all seriously need to find an altar... seriously!

I bet you keep your friends and family confused.
Do we get Bill gifts this year or not? Is it his "on" or "off" year?

It might not have been a big deal to you, but apparently some others don't share your view. I didn't mind being without a tree too awful much. BUt I do enjoy having one now.

Also one can be fully persuaded in either direction. I would rather stick on the side of caution.

I was mortified. To this day, I still don't understand why my parents didn't just keep me home that day. It was also a sore spot with other members of our family who did (and do) celebrate, so it made time with them strained, or we wouldn't visit at all until after Christmas was over. My Dad (who I resemble a LOT in character, btw ) couldn't resist talking about the pagan holidays, sometimes even just teasing other people about it, but inevitably it always caused a problem.
*sigh*
I think I sound bitter. LOL!! I'm not. It just wasn't one of the positive parts of my childhood, and I determined that I would make it up to myself when I grew up--and I am!!!!

I am glad we did everything Christmas except the tree. Of course, if we hadn't my and my husband's families would have thrown a conniption. One year, my family came for Christmas and my Dad went out and bought some white lights and put them on a little fake leafy tree I had. I was upset about that because he didn't ask, he just did it. But, I just let that go. As it was, I had to put up with my sister giving my daughter gifts on Taoism and the like and my parents and mother-in-law giving her Barbies with pants. I never took them from her, I felt it would do more harm than good but I had a very hard time in my mind with all this. She also recieved a number of pants as gifts early on. I did get rid of those back then. Now, I just buy them for her myself.

Sure, it has pagan origins. But some of don't think that celebrating it today as Christmas is someting God cares about.

The side of caution can be pretty dangerous, amazingly.

So you make up your religion as you go along? Yet, dress standards are wrong? But, made up holidays are right, because we get to party, and have fun? So, we don't like the individuals who walk up and say "hey, man, xmas is phoney and has nothing to do with Christ."
You should really dig what's coming out of your own mouth.
