Cool Re: The Village idioT

While I'm not wary of Friday the 13th, last Fri lived up to its reputation.

Occassionally I mix paint at work , (cover breaks, lunch, super busy day).
Over the lunch hour I was busily scanning paint chips and shaking cans of paint. A customer had a color match, which takes a bit longer. I put the quart can of tinted paint in the shaker. To keep it balanced you need 2 or more cans so I added another quart can and turned it on. A large metal plate/cover lowers to the can holding it in place and then the shaking begins.
It had an odd sound ( one becomes aware of the proper noises of various pieces of equipment). But I ignored it. Almost immediately the door popped open (not normal) and one can jumped out, landing on the concrete on its' side, lid off, paint pouring freely.
A coworker grabbed the spill pak which blots up some....
For the next 30 min I was on the floor mopping up paint. (( He who spills...cleans ))

This involves sawdust to soak up excess;then many paper towels and as a
grand finale---acetone to do a good quick removal of any remaining paint.

How to ruin a perfectly good day.

Newer cans have plastic lids and I had one metal lid and one can w/plastic lid which probably caused a balance problem. .

Re: The Village idioT

Last week, at our church, I was removing the pipes and flush valve from a urinal in the mens room.

Never thought about what would happen if my heavy pipe wrench slipped.

The wrench slipped out of my hand and grazed the inside corner on it's way to the floor.

Took a nice chunk out of the fixture.

The new vavle and chromed 1/2 in pipes were allready over 100 bucks NOW I gotta replace the whole thing.

Fortunatly I was able to glue the biggest peice back in, leaving on small hole in the top of the fixture. I've filled that crack or hole with marine tex epoxy.

a little sanding tomorrow and a couple coats of porcelan paint and it should be good as new by sunday.

Moral of the story...never drop a pipe wrench on a urinal.

Talking Re: The Village idioT

Don't trust me near paint. A year ago I was filling tints. This process involves filling, purging and agitating the cylinders of tint.

The purging process involves each tint dispensing a small amount. Makes sure the nozzles are clean and assists due to no use overnight.
The tints dispense one at a time in a circle around nozzle disc. After a couple of purgings one color shot past the can (spittoon so to speak) and without thinking I grabbed a papertowel to clean it up.......but the purging was still in process. Another nozzle misfired and nailed me!

My sweater sleeve was drenched in tint (this is the potent form of "color").
Again without thinking, I started cleaing it off, while still wearing it! Goof off is not healthy for skin

I went to the restroom to flush my arm with water and then of course my sweater is stained AND wet.

I ended up leaving work to drive over to Kohls ( about a mile) to buy a new top.

Re: The Village idioT

Many washings later, I still have not removed the yellow oxide from that sweater sleeve.

Hoovie.. you used a rubber mallet to remove ice.... my daughter thought she did such a great job cleaning off our car this past winter. My car has so many scratch marks it isn't even funny, I just have to look the other way... she used the shovel.

Re: The Village idioT

About fifteen years ago Kristin and I were touring St Petersburg, Russia. We were at the Hermitage and walking back to the hotel. There was a crowd in front of the Opera House and scalpers sold us tickets for about $30 each. We could not speak or read the Russian and they did not speak English either, but we thought it was worth a try. Inside we found our "seat numbers" were actually in the standing areas where about a thousand were already standing in front of us.

Not being able to see, we simply walk out.

I came home and was reading a story in Readers Digest about Rostropovich, great conductor and world renowned cellist who had his Russian citizenship stripped from him. His impromptu performance during the fall of the Berlin Wall cemented his reputation as an activist for freedom of expression.

We researched it and found the house was packed the night we were there because of the famed Rostropovich was performing...

I walked out on Rostropovich... what an idioT!

Re: The Village idioT

Yesterday I was extremely busy and rushing to get to my next job when I discovered my fuel needed refilling... I put a little over a gallon in when I thought "Hey! this sure doesn't smell like diesel!" I called a diesel man and he said I would be alright if diluted the gas with 20 gallons diesel.

WHAT AN idioT!!
